AT&T drops pay phone business

SAN ANTONIO - AT&T Inc. will exit the rapidly shrinking pay phone business by the end of next year, before it becomes unprofitable, the company said Monday.

I guess the scene in Airplane with all the reporters running into the phone booths & knocking em over will be a thing of the past. As will the plot vehicle of not being able to find correct change to avert armageddon in Dr. Strangelove. Superman? Fugedaboutit! [:(]

This was a secret for years. They even stopped fixing broken pay phones because it was no longer worth it. One call 25 cents or one phone with a minimum payment each month. Do the math.
