LOL, drsevrin, KYYX4ever already mentioned Sonny Bono in her original post.
Isn't Bob Geldof politically active? Almost an unofficial ambassador type? And I know this isn't the same as being a politician, but I do remember Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam testifying before Congress in the '90s against the ticket-selling monopoly of Ticketmaster.
BTW, if you Google musicians who became politicians, this thread comes up as the #1 search result! Well done, peeps.

Yes, and in my opinion, he should have stayed in music.

I love that Midnight Oil album!
I can't think of any other musicians that held office, although plenty of hollywood stars did (reagan, sonny bono, clint eastwood, etc.)

well thanks, guys. I knew you would know. And it confirms my thought that many punk rockers got into politics. It's as if they walked the walk after talking the talk. (and by "talk", I mean "screaming angrily over hard and fast guitar chords against Reagan and Thatcher and other 80s political adventures.") I dunno. It seems like anytime I listened to the Dead Kennedys or Fear or TSOL or Black Flag back in the day, I'd start thinking that the next logical step was to get into political activism.

Joey Shithead of D.O.A. ran for something in Canada. I'm sure that he went by his real name, Joey Keithley.
You know...maybe that "Dear Shithead" letter in the other post wasn't a mistaken. Maybe they just didn't have the proper address.
We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.
