All the secretaries at work were talking about how "cute" the Jonas Brothers' cover was . . . [xx(]

I have long known I'm in the minority here on this one, but I really like the No Doubt cover of "It's My Life." First, it's a great song. No matter how sacrilegious it might seem, a straighforward cover (no kazoo) is hard to screw up. Second, I think the original was emotionally remote, someone reflecting from a distance, and I think Gwen tapped into some immediate girly anger (cf. "I'm Just a Girl). Or maybe that's me projecting . . .

I'd nominate Indigo Girls' version of "Clampdown."

I couldn't disagree more on "It's My Life" but both of us are entitled to our opinions. I really feel the emotional intensity on the original. I think Gwen Stefani's cover sounds like someone singing a cover...no emotion whatsoever. For me, the original had as much emotional investment as any I can think of.



We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Duran Duran's cover of White Lines was pretty bad (but then so was the whole album), but then the 'original' was a rip-off of from Liquid Liquid.

I'm not exactly enamoured with Nouvelle Vague either..

That Orgy cover of New Order IS pretty bad. I caught a friend's daughter listening to it... sent her the original as well as a synopsis of the historical importance of New Order in the music scene. I know she thinks I'm crazy now... but let's face it, she may be right. [:D]
