Sell Me On Fall Out Boy

I have their newest CD that came out last Tuesday but I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, any thoughts? Good? Bad?

It's definitely their Mona Lisa. If you've never had the pleasure of being kicked full force in the nuts, that's exactly the impact of their instrumentals and song-writing. And those vocals...just tear those nuts right off with dull pliers. Sublime.

Fall Out Boy?

What, were they out of Jonas Brothers?

I think that sort of punky/emo/pubescent, angry at the world sound (My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, etc.), has a limited shelf life and the bands performing it have little hope of evolving into anything beyond transient, teen idol flashes in the pan.

Where do you go when you grow up but the whole basis for your sound is angst-filled-boy-rock? Can't play that shit with a straight face when you're 30.

The Stones and many other classic rockers have a more Blues based sound and mature subject matter that appeals to a much broader age range. It goes beyond the teen filled angst that we all feel when we're 14. That's my point.

If I saw some old fuck in a convertible cranking Fall Out Boy or some other Emo band, I'd laugh my ass off.

I can't believe I'm going to defend Panic at the Disco, but to their credit, they did evolve from ripping off Fall Out Boy to ripping off The Beatles. Surely that counts for something? If I may say so, they do a better job of ripping off The Beatles than the kings of Beatles ripping-offage, Oasis, do. "Nine in the Afternoon" was a better Beatles pastiche than anything Oasis ever farted out. No noxious Gallagher brother egos getting in the way, either.

That would be the more mature, insightful sound of All American Rejects
