Ok, that sounds a bit, creepy, but...
Seriously, Marv has been the most visible member of the Mods here over the last several days. As such he has been subject to a variety of derisive comments on the board. I have been reminded again of the kind of "no-win" job the mod has. That being said it is past time for me to publicly support him and his stance on several of the threads posted here in the last week or so. Still being a relative newcomer here has robbed me of the benefit of knowing a lot of the old history here. But, suffice it to say that harrassment and continued perjorative attacks against members are not (nor should be) tolerated here at the NWO. The atomosphere on the NNNW board has become quite toxic--enough so my fear is some very new posters may be shy about posting lest they are targeted for abuse. That should not happen. Certainly disagreements and jabs back and forth are going to happen on a public board with a membership this size. But things have gotten out of hand in several recent instances. Marv (and certainly MikeP--it's his board after all) were right to put a stop to them before they deteriorated any further. New Year's are a traditional time for making resolutions (and then promptly forgeting them). Perhaps as Ben has done in his holiday-themed thread (good show, Ben)it's time for us as a group to recognize that the New Wave Outpost, is, as much as anything on the Internet, a dynamic organism--one whose ability to thrive is directly shaped by the membership. Engendering an atomosphere that deters people from posting will result in eventual stagnation of a wonderful site. My hope is that none of us here are willing for that to happen. That means thinking before posting. Some examples include: 1-Should a personal grudge against a board member be better brought up to him/her off-board? 2-Will a savage reply to a jab really result in anything except an escalation in an argument that, in most cases, neither side can possibly "win"? 3-Do I have to have the last word on a subject, or perhaps by NOT answering a baiting thread, I take the high road and it is NOT perceived as "losing" the argument?
More specifically recently:
Rubeet, you have always been kind to me in your posts, and as I understand, you have always been a valued member of this board (long before some dolt name NuWaveRx made a great impression on everyone by fucking up Blir's NTT game...[:I]). I don't know the past history you have described in recent posts and it is none of my business. Something this personal shouldn't be aired here. It is akin to a couple having a loud argument in a crowded diner--it is acutely embarrasing for all.
Eight6 (deep breath). I have nothing but respect for you. Your ability to think on your feet, your humor, and your mastery of sarcasm as a sharp instrument is nothing short of spellbinding. My guess is you could give the great orators of the 18th and 19th century a run for their money. But, that sharp instrument has been wielded a bit much in recent threads (IMHO). As stated above it can create the perception to very new members that if they are out of line they will torn to shreads by a master. I fear that many people may not reply to your posts for that reason. I confess I'm a bit nervous as I write this[:p]. But I ask that you use your obvious wit and intelligence with a bit more brevity. I don't believe you want to scare people away from NWO. I now await the dagger as it comes...[:D]
This post is mine and did not go through the "committee" of the other mods. If any of you choose to heap abuse--please direct it at me--and please email me if possible. You'll hit your target--I check it at least daily.
Finally to all the members of the NWO--A very happy holiday season. May your New Year be as exciting (but much safer) than James Bond--after all next year is the Year of the Bond ('007)
Thanks for reading.[:)]
