ENYA

IMO, the best singer outside the new wave genre or any other genre there is. I have all of her albums and all stand out.

Watermark
Sheperd Moons
The Celts
The Memory Of Trees
A Day Without Rain
Amarantine

Mt faves are Book Of Days, Carribean Blue, Wild Child, Only Time.

Any artist you know that sounds like Enya??

Dude! If you play oranoco whatever...everyone will start singing "sail away sail away sail away". I agree, I'm not into irish music too much but I don't know, she must be a siren or something. I can't help listening and it calms me down which is a bonus.

I love her stuff. I have three of her albums. Granted, some of it got a little played out for a while, but I agree that she is very talented, both vocally and instrumentally. Her music is instantly soothing.

Sure. Her sister, Moya Brennan. Check out Chicane's Saltwater, with her singing vocals. So cool that Ireland used it for some tourist commercial. She sings a couple of tracks on the latest Schiller album too.

Yes, Moya Brennan (originally Máire) of Clannad, has a similar voice, although Moya's is stronger and more defined and more suited for the distinctly Irish music of Clannad. Enya's voice is softer and more new-agey. I love them both.

I'll be the first to express extreme loathing for her. Then again, I'm probably the only person here unfortunate enough to have managed a music store for years and to have had the misfortune of dealing with the type of people who bought her cd's. [xx(]

Edit: and I don't mean that as a slam against serious music fans who just happen to enjoy her music - that's fine. I'm talking about the other 95% of the people who bought her stuff after seeing a Pure Moods commercial or because it would make them look "cool" to their friends.

For Irish'esque music I've always regarded Mike Oldfield as my "go to man" Sally Oldfield , Maggie Reilly or Steeleye Span have always been my favorites.Wasn't the skids Irish?

I'm jes sayin'

If I want Irish music I'll turn on The Undertones. Enya bores me.

THis is exactly what I would have said. Awesome voice, songs a little played out, but she's good. Great relaxation soundscape.

CELTIC MOODS: A Celtic companion to PURE MOODS. This is an excellent CD full of Irish singers and composers. One of my favorites is Loreena McKennitt.

I think she has a nice voice, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I have all her albums/CDs, including the Best of CD, but not the new one: "Amarantine." How is it?

I like all the above songs and Storms in Aficia I and II, love the african drumming, reminds me of some Peter Gabriel songs from Security LP.
