Four CNN Lead Stories for Barbaro?!

Postby Frau_Blucher » Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:20 am

I'm sorry, Barbaro's a cool horse, I guess, and I'm a big sports and racing fan, but still...IT'S A FUCKING HORSE!!! I'm sure a lot of dead GI's would love to have a single story rather than be part of a body count. WTF, give me a fucking break.

Peace, out.

I've always been sort of torn with horse racing. As a kid my uncle got me a job at Santa Anita cleaning horse shit from stalls. I loved the horses (which I was never really allowed to get near) and hated most of the people.

Horse racing to me is one of those elitist psuedo sports. It's all about the money.

If you couldn't gamble on horse racing I wonder how many people aside from horse lovers would actually go.

I remember when I was a kid, a grocery chain called Grand Union used to give out cards with the number of a horse on them and then you could watch a race on TV and if your horse won, you'd win money. Naturally, we never won more than a couple of bucks but it was still fun gathering around the TV as a family and pulling for our horse to win.

And just now after typing that, I think I've figured out why I turned out to be such a degenerate gambler. [:D]

Well having been a former broadcast news person I can tell you the main reason you heard so much about it was...it was MONDAY!

There's no news on Monday mornings. It's one of the slowest days of the week. They have to fill the void somehow.

That's why so many politicians like to announce their candidacies for something on Monday. Maximum news coverage!!!

I'm sure it will be the lead story on the local news here in Louisville tonight.

Jeez - Our grocery store used to have those too! And yeah, it was my first taste in a long and jaded history of gambling.

LOL!!! Does anyone else get a kick out of sportscasters referring to horses as "athletes"? That's like calling me an athlete because I breathe.
Horses do 2 things: run and shit.

I'm sure "athletic" horses can do anything they set their mind to.

I suppose if fathering scores of illegitimate children is a criteria, then yes, they're athletes extraordinaire!
