Bands You Hate

Postby birdmadgirl » Tue Mar 27, 2007 8:13 am

After suffering through back-to-back Cher and Heart songs today (my boss has been playing with the radio again), it dawned on me that I'd rather listen to an entire Nickelback (hee!) album than hear them again.

Cher just sucks. Period.

And, so what if what-her-name from Heart can belt out the tunes? It's like nails on a chalkboard! Overrated! And, they are responsible for the world's worst song, "All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You." Gah! [xx(]

Who do you hate?

If music snobs are going to tout bands as the second coming of Christ, they had better be it. [/quote] Music snobs? Eh..right. All three deserve accolades. I always thought the one's who *don't* get them were the music snobs. [:p]

Fallout Boy
Maroon 5
Hootie and the Blowfish
Alanis Morrisette

Black Eye Peas
Nickleback

Ron Burgundy: I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Ron Burgundy: Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

Rap/ Hip Hop in general (exceptions: A Tribe Called Quest and the Beastie Boys)
Foreigner
Any soft metal band from the 80's... yuk!!!

Good thing that I live in my 80's bubble...[:)]

Then who are the one's (sic) who *do* get them? The music sheep? Bah..right. ,,,,lol,,,,

SwampThing, isn't there an "Office" marathon on right now? Maybe you could, like, go watch that instead of posting here? You know NBC's motto: "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you!" Which, in the case of trash like "The Office," is their way of telling you, "If you haven't seen the superior British original, you're sure to love our braindead American bastardization!"

Hey, maybe Pitchfork (I know you have a subscription; don't tell me otherwise) can adopt that for their own motto. "If you haven't heard it a thousand times before..."

Well let's see, I don't. I used to subscribe to CMJ to get the free CD back in the 90's, but no longer have time for reading music rags.

I think most would agree the Smiths and Radiohead have a reputation as influencers, not followers. Arcade Fire's first EP and CD I enjoyed very much, but I can't really put them in the same category as the others. Radiohead I hold dear to my heart because I've been a fan long before they became the "it" band. The owner of my local import record shop turned me on to them (as well as many other great UK indie bands) before "Creep" hit the airwaves stateside.

I've stuck with these bands even after they became "it bands", "sold millions", etc, after all, only a real music snob would abandon a band because they achieved a certain level of popularity and too many positive (gushing) reviews.

Who are you favorite bands? I'm sure we must like some of the same music, after all we ended up on this site. FYI, I enjoyed the first two season of the american version of the Office, my patience for this season is wearing thin, it may be time to watch the British version.

BTW - I've never had anyone tell me to stop posting here, hopefully it was in jest, it can only reflect poorly on you otherwise.

I hate bands that are/were lightweight pop, posing as New Wave. Usually the kind that "Rockhead" likes to post about. Ex: "Naked (lame ass) Eyes"- give me a break!.

Or New Wave bands that became too Pop, homogenized and disposable, (think Thompson Twins, Duran 2 during their "boy band" period.)

Or most "grunge" bands. If I wanted to listen to depressing, hard edged metal I'd pull out some Black Sabbath!
