I own a caliber 22. Never used it except during New Years Eve firing at the canals. It has no license though. [:D]

So do you own one? What model?

A gun here costs about 40,000 to 80,000 pesos. High caliber guns arent allowed. [:D]

Hi...

Why do you feel the need to even own a gun?

I gotta admit I don't know much about the politics and social scene in the Philippines, but is there a need for a gun?
Would you use it on someone?
What would be the reasons?

I don't mean to be critical or mad and of course I know little about the Philippines culture, but celebrating the ownership of a gun seems weird to me...no offense empyrean, just don't get it...

hello there.

Well, the peace and order situation in my country is one of the worst in Asia. Here, if you figure in a vehicular accident, those bystanders will help you but in truth, they're looking for valuables to snatch. Cellphones, watches, cash etc...

Since poverty level is high, most people dont have jobs and they are prone to stealing or any kind of "modus operandi" just to to con other people.

Im not planning to use it but just in case. I own a gun to protect my family. Thats it. Im a responsible gun owner. [:D]. I feel secure when i have it. But dont get the wrong impression about the Philippines. It is still a beautiful country. There are just some isolated crimes happening. But which country does'nt have crimes?

[:D]. Actually im just trying to avoid hitting someone when i shoot it in the air. So im aiming it low at the gutters, (i thought canal has different meaning with you guys. [:D])

Durig New Years eve, there are people who shoot in the air and then someone get hit by the bullet. Scary here really.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people and wounding another 21 before he was killed, police said.

On the Web site, Tech reported the shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and said there were "multiple victims" at Norris Hall, an engineering building.

All entrances to the campus were closed and classes canceled through Tuesday.

"There's just a lot of commotion. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on," said student Jason Anthony Smith, 19, who lives in the dorm where shooting took place.

Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, said the shooting happened on the 4th floor of West Ambler Johnston dormitory, one floor above her room. Kanode's resident assistant knocked on her door about 8 a.m. to notify students to stay put.

"They had us under lockdown," Kanode said. "They temporarily lifted the lockdown, the gunman shot again."

"We're all locked in our dorms surfing the Internet trying to figure out what's going on," Kanode said.

Madison Van Duyne, a student who was interviewed by telephone on CNN, said, "We are all in lockdown. Most of the students are sitting on the floors away from the windows just trying to be as safe as possible."



This is why gun control should be priority number one....22 innocent people died because some asshole bought a gun. He probably bought it at his local Walmart / Kmart. This is sick and it needs to be stopped.

Would gun control really make any difference? Would it prevent what just happened in Virginia?

I'm from Texas--straight out of the ranches and farms of the Panhandle. Most of us had (have) guns. I learned to shoot a rifle as a kid, and I'm a pretty good shooter today. Guns at home are just the way it is to me.

What's that saying? If we outlaw guns, outlaws will still have them? Is there any truth to that? Maybe I'm just dumb, but I don't see how a few whack jobs going on rampages translates into taking guns from responsible gun owners. If these idiots don't have guns, won't they find other means?

Personally, I feel better having a gun in the house, especially living in Las Vegas. I live in a nice neighborhood, but I'm no fool--all the crazies come to hang out/live here. I like having a gun, and trust me, I would not hesitate to use it if I had to.

I know what you mean but as a start, you shouldn't be able to go down to the local store and buy a gun. I know that there are background checks and everything but it's not working. How's this? Guns will only be sold at police stations where a heavy background check could be run. Would a wanted person go there to get a gun? And if you're caught with an unlicensed gun there's a manditory 10 year lockup on top of any crime you committed.

Funny, this has been an ongoing debate at another discussion forum I frequent. And somewhat fortuitous that it should come up now over here, in light of the Virginia Tech catastrophe. Here are some sobering statistics on gun violence:

Probably the most shocking statistic is that only two out of the twenty two national gun laws are actually enforced according to one study. I think gun control should start with the actual enforcement of the laws we ALREADY have, never mind making up new ones. I just think ot's way too easy for guns to get into the wrong hands.

I had a 45 Browning and a 308 Savage that I promptly got rid of when my son was born. The cool thing was that the local Police dept. was having a gun turn in and offering 100 gift certificates to either Safeway or Toys r Us. I took the Toys r us.

It is, of course, politically incorrect to buy your kid a toy gun here on the left coast. And guess what? My son and all his little friends run around the playground with their fingers stuck out pretending that they're guns, shooting each other!
