Shut down topic?

So it seems somebody up there in supervisor land saw fit to lock out a topic on the "News and CD issues" side of the board...it was the thread about Rick Nelson...it was childish and over blown, and REALLY funny...my easy question:

Did MikeP know this was done or do the Mods now have permission to kill threads as they see fit?

And if not there's a moderator who should be shown the door. If you're not involved in the topic and no one emailed you with complaints that were involved there, you're dead wrong to lock it out...it's not what you're supposed to be doing here, IMHO...

If I were still a mod I would have killed "what are you listening to" long ago. I think the first song on that thread is from the Beach Boys...but I would have called Mike first and got the ok...

This is Mike's site and it used to be moderators would get the ok from him before performing anything that may be construed as heavy handed...if the ok indeed came from Mike I have no issues...every topic that got killed when I was a moderator would have Mike stating that as the last post...

Have the rules changed while I was away?

If they have ok, but if one of the mods killed that thread without Mike's knowledge they should, IMHO again, be released back to the crowd. This isn't supposed to be, or at least wasn't, a place where moderators had the right to kill a thread without informing Mike or having the nerve to say they were going to kill it.

OK, I'm done...I apologize if I'm wrong...but if I'm right and somebody out there is doing this without Mike's approval,censorship from a mod on their own is wrong...I'll shut up now...

I used to have a tag on my sig that read [b]"Need a thread locked? Call me."[/b] so I know a thing or two about thread lockage. With very few exceptions the timing of the lock was just about right, as the thread in question had disintegrated into an out and out pissing match.

That being said, I think a more pro-active approach to the likes of a georgie rockwood, who is continually allowed to post topics not even remotely appropriate is in order.

It seems all one has to do to make a thread New Wave relevant is to include the words "New Wave" in the post. That's not right, and is long overdue for addressing.

While I wasn't specifically notified about locking this thread, I can rely on the mods to know what they're doing most of the time. I prefer a quick notification but I'm not always able to respond in a timely matter, so they can lock threads if they see fit.

Personally, I agree with Marv that the Rick Nelson thread became nothing more than a pissing contest involving the usual suspects and some newcomers. It seems like it's all about shooting the messenger rather than weighing in on the actual content posted. (Granted, some of the "content" is understandably poor at times.) Everyone has to have some arch nemesis on the board that they have to take digs at constantly. Is it something personal? Is it an ego thing? I really don't care but I DO know that I would appreciate more respect for the NWO community as a whole (i.e., not forcing everyone else to wade through this crap) by occasionally having the good sense not to turn every thread into a bitch/ego/slug-fest. It seems like more and more of this tripe is spilling over into the music-related forums now and that's just sad IMO. Yes, you could say that I'm getting more than a little burned out![|)]

That being said Wauk, I'm glad you're back and still with us.[8D]

I agree with Wauk on this one. Too many threads shut down for my liking lately. It was indeed a completely ridiculous tit-for-tat, but I didn't see it hurting anyone besides the 'combatants'. This stuff is easy enough to ignore - people see it, roll their eyes, and move on. It's just jousting. It's unlike other threads where third parties have been dragged through the mud, or private information was being divulged, or someone was stalking, or things were turning into a big ugly gang-up. This didn't feel like that. But hey, just my IMHO.

Also IMHO, if you really wanna curb behavior that's tiresome or offensive to you Mike, I think you oughta show some balls and start locking the 'combatants' accounts, say like a day's cooling off period. I see the same complaints from you about being tired of this shit, but there's never been any real remedy or action - just worthless bemoaning. Locking a thread is just bottling it up to spill over somewhere else. You giving the mods locking authority is passing the buck, leaving them hanging out to dry in lieu of any resolute guidelines or action IMHO. If you want laissez-faire, create an environment that will allow it. Hell, you can start the lock with me. I'm a higher primate (relatively) - I get negative and positive reinforcement as would others.

And lastly in regards to balls, Wauk, just what are you getting at with the passive-aggressive innuendoes? You've been sneaking 'em in from your very first post back. What's your exact beef and against who? Is this post even about a locked thread or that beef? Fucking pull up the skirt of that blue dress, show us your balls, and bring it like the old Wauk we know. I disagree that the mods should be able to police as they see fit without your approval. You have at least one mod (yes Blir and everyone else, I don't think Marv should be a mod, he's way too opinionated and gets riled way too easily. And Marv, if you have a problem with that please email me directly and I'll let you know what my problem with you is, I don't think I should be discussing it with the general population.) who shouldn't be there...

It's why I stopped. I found that in some instances I couldn't be totally separted from the subject to review it with complete objectiveness, which IMHO, is the most important thing for a mod to do...

I go to a morning AA meeting.
I go to the gym and work out as long as I can til the brain hurts.
I hit the steam room to open the capillaries
I walk home
I lay down til I can see again
I read books on how to repair a broken brain and carry out the exercises within.
I hold ice to my head for 20 minues to take the pain down since I refuse to take the drugs they gave me.
I make dinner for me and Kap, usually good vegetables and soup. It's what my insides can bear right now...
I go to the evening AA meeting.
I get a ride home and let the warm shower waterrun over my head for 40 minutes.
I check my email and then try and go to sleep with no drugs or alcohol.
I wake up once a night at least with head pain.

All of these things are my fault. I accept that. I will not accept someone, anyone calling me names. Doofus or shitbag, sure...but when you bring in something I physically suffer through every day, though it was my fault, you can go fuck yourself till the end of time.

I'll take an apology, and only that from you. Otherwise, post your crap someplace else...now if you'll forgive me I have to go take a cold shower, which is a lot of fun at midnight.

And do me a favor please. Drop this, I think we both made our points, please move on, I grow tired of this nonsense.
