The Worst Week EVER !!!!! (for me)

Postby phillyidol » Mon Aug 20, 2007 6:58 am

Ok, first of all on tuesday, I wrote to Marie and told her my back was killing me. On wednesday I got out of my car to walk to work and turned around and went home...almost cripple. I tried to hold out but it got to be too much. On thursday morning I called 911. I was screaming with pain by that point. I spent most of the day begging for more meds. Got the mri back. My disks are out, swollen and hitting nervs. So they admit me. I get into the room and its 1000 degrees. I have a room mate. He is chinese, and very old. He also has a problem speaking. I think he has no teeth. Anyway I turn on the a/c by (now picture me flat on my back) grabbing a bedpan and swinging it at the switch. Then he starts yelling "yarr arrrd bah gar". So to keep the peace I just open the window. Then the nurse (never the same one) comes in. You need pain killer? YES! Ok....never comes back. Then room mate yells aaard bard yard. About an hour later another nurse, you need pain medicine? Yes! This goes on for the last 5 days. Then to get out, I need a walker, which they won't give me. They have them but won't give or sell me one. But the won't let me go without one. So I call a place...we won't deliver it. Ok now the nurse tells me I should call an ambulence to take me home. Then the other one says call a car service. Well they sign me out and never get me. Nobody ever tells anyone I'm ready. So 2 hours after signing out, a guy gets me. we call car service and I'm home. Oh, I sent my wife to get my pills, and the doctor messed up the script so add a few more hours before I get them.
How was your week?

DUDE! That so blows. I've had wicked back problems a couple of times but just muscle, never real bulges. And even then I've been floored for 3 days straight. I can't imagine how you feel to be laid up in a freakin' hospital for 5 days, holy crap! Condolences. What are you supposed to do now??

Two more things - 1) Save me any leftover pills and 2) I think the Chinese guy was saying "Fuck you racist white devil".

no, I think the Chinese guy was telling you that if you'd just been a bit nicer to squirrels, you wouldn't be in this mess. You know, Squirrel Karma and all.

seriously, though, I hope you feel and get better fast. This sounds like no fun. [:(]

So do I, but the whole "lose my license" thing kinda throws me..[;)]

Seriously Philly I'm sorry your experience in the hospital was so bad. I'd wish they would have offered you Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA). That way you control the amount of painkiller you get and nurses (who are often very understaffed) know you are getting relief.

I'm assuming a orthopod or a neurosurgeon has discussed surgical options with you. Hopefully there are some options in your case (e.g kyphoplasty) that will get rid of the pain and get you back to your old self. Good luck and speedy recovery

At least you didn't get stuck with Nurse Ratched.

Still, I'm sorry for your pain! I hate hospitals and will die before I ever step foot in one voluntarily (yes, I know how that sounds), as a patient. I used to be a nurse's assistant in OB and Surgery and OR and always witnessed the most insane things there. *shudders*

I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear that philly! I hope you find relief and better living through strong hallucinagenic medication!

Did they give you percocets? Because percocets are awesome. Really awesome.

Thanks guys. It was NYcommunity. Also known as kings highway community or presb. I guess they are all like that. The pain made it much worse. What sucks now is...I'm bent. When I stand or walk I am totally bent sideways! They said that is just the body reacting to the pressure on the discs. I could not move at all 3 days ago. I got cortizone injections in the back which helped alot. But now this. So they say rest, and excersise the area. But it feels so messed up. I feel like I'm twisted inside.
