The country will eventually see an end to Communism and a better relationship (perhaps even a cooperative relationship) with the United States. Castro's brother is old and won't be in power all that long. He is also not the "face" of the revolution 50 years ago. The people will have a little less fear in speaking of new ideas and will try to facilitate change in the coming years, albeit slowly. Change may not be quick but there will be identifiable changes within the next ten years. Just my opinion.

I have been dying to visit Cuba for a long time. My sister in law lived there for a few years while her husband was stationed at Guantonomo with the coast guard. My husband visited and said it was beautiful. It would be great if a real change comes from this.

One of my cousins honeymooned there. Said it was amazing. The pictures they took were stunning. They were like going back in time, the place is so untouched.

That is how my husband described it too Marv. He always said it would be a shame to see it commercialize if and when the country does end it's communist rule.

Okay, I'm a little ignorant on this subject, so anyone who wants to ejumacate me please feel free:

Isn't the true essence of communism a little more compassionate than anything Stalin or Castro dreamed up (in other words, didn't they take advantage of and distort the concept of communism for their own selfish and maniacal needs/desires)? Or am I confusing that with socialism? lol

I think all political systems are somewhat like religion: no matter which one you choose there is always a built in flaw, and/or people who are eager to jump in and exploit it for their own personal gain. *sigh*
