Summer Vacation

Postby club80 » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:51 pm

We know Blir is going to England to seek out the perfect salisbury steak with some other people's wives or something like that.
I can't hope to compete with that. I am taking a brief trip to Cooperstown, NY for six days starting this upcoming Friday. No, it isn't Coop41town. It is Cooperstown. Rural, small town, upstate New York. The Baseball Hall of fame is there which is an awesome place, but there's other things to do too. Most importantly for me, it is a place where my wife, son and myself can relax and put aside the stresses of everyday life. We do this for a week every summer to re-tool. It is a special place for us.

Anyway, where is everyone else going? Will it be a new adventure or is there that special place that you return to annually? Do tell.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Unlike the last three years, where I travelled abroad (and it was the first time in over fifteen years I did that until then--not counting a conference trip to Canada in 2003), I only travelled on conference related trips this year, so no trip this year, and if I do buy a condo before the end of this year, as I likely will, it may be a while. :( Aside from that, I'm in Southern California a lot as most of my family and stepfamily live there (along with some friends :) ).

Dude, Summer is over. my kids start school tomorrow!
Ha Coop41town. A lonely place, but a hall of fame of sorts, at least in my own mind!

We went to San Diego twice so far and LA at the end of the month, Vegas a couple times in the past 30 days and one more trip there the 25th. No real big summer trip this year.

Hey...Coop41town is a Hall of Fame! School? Already? Okay, so it is later than I realized but school? August 11th? When do they start summer vacation?

Thanks Yachtingtype! I can't wait for the break!

My youngest two kids got out of school on Friday -- and go back to start the new school year in two weeks. ^*#&%*^&@% year-round school ....

So, no big plans this summer. Or next summer. Or the year after that. [:(]

Really?
That's cruel. In New York, school ends towards the end of June and doesn't resume until two days after Labor Day. It's a real summer vacation.

Wow! you guys are lucky having summer. I'm freezing my nuts off.

Its Winter down under, but my wife and I are about to head off on a Winter Vacation to Europe! A "European Vacation" as it were! hopefully for most destinations, the weather will be warmer than down here at the moment.

I was stoked about an upcoming trip tp NYC because our insurance broker offered me free tickets to the US Open!!!

But now the fucking Chairman of the Board has every hour of my trip scheduled with work! Fuck me!

I'm currently 'cationing in Williamsburg, Va. Land of American history and theme parks. And my in-laws. So we're here a few times per year.

(At least they picked a nice place to retire to.)

Cooperstown is great. In the middle of nowhere. My family literally skidded to there for a visit this past February. It sure is empty in February, but not as much as you might think it would be.

If you're an unabashed beer snob like me, be sure to visit the Ommegang brewery while you're there, and bring home a few cases for yourself. You won't be sorry. (And it sure beats the Anheuser-Busch crap I easily ignore here in Va.)

School has begun here as well (had to report back LAST Tues, Aug. 5th !!!)

Just a small vacation this year; no overseas journies this time. 1/2 a week in Portland, OR, and then 1/2 week in LA (Long Beach), which we LOVED ! Really liked LA.

Aside from one quick trip to Quebec City for the nifty 400th anniversary celebrations that are going on there, we have been busy hosting a parade of friends and relatives here (Ottawa, ON).

My main preoccupation this summer has been French, as I have been in a full time course since the start of June (with the big exam coming up at the end of August).

Hey waldnorm, Canada in 2003, was that ALA?

Yeah I can't wait.. I need a holiday SO bad.

We are doing a tour around Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and France then we go to London for a few days... then we are going back to Paris to see Madonna perform at the Stade De France, then we go back to London and spend 3 weeks travelling around the UK.

Bring it ON! ;-)
