I've been to several events lately where the music was too loud to have a conversation:
1. A birthday party / going away party (a fashion photographer moving to NYC)... a DJ spinning LP's on multiple turntables at a bar.
2. A fashion show at a new photo studio that 4 photographer friends opened up... also had a DJ playing music too loud that I could barley hear the person standing in front of me.
3. A friend who is a model and singer, she's at a club, where she played 3 sets, in between each set another band played a set, and the speakers were buzzing from the volume, it did not sound good, but she did, the volume for her sets were good.
4. a 50th birthday surprise party, also with a DJ playing music before the guest of honor arrived, again you could hardly hold a conversation with the person next to you.
I love music, but I would like to enjoy it, and if I'm at an event with people I know, I would like to be able to communicate with the person standing next to me... maybe I'm just getting older.
