<br>But it is an interesting point how the effectiveness of these words today is so diluted. Case in point: my high school students. They're always swearing ! Although not during classtime. Part of it is that they're just teens, rebelling for shock value. But to them, the words are just not that shocking !! A teacher used to be able to say "Would you want your mother to hear you saying that?/ What would your mother say if she heard you say that?" And the kid would be instantly shamed. But not anymore! Half the time the kids look at you funny and say NO. And it's true, if their own parents swear all the time, too; they hear it in the media, (the FCC allows "ass" to be said now on TV)
Cartman: Don't call me fat, you fucking Jew!
Mr. Garrison: Eric, did you just say the "F" word?!
Cartman: Jew?
Kyle: No, he's talking about "fuck." You can't say "fuck" in school, you fucking fatass!
Cartman: Why the fuck not?
Mr. Garrison: Eric!
Stan: Dude, you just said "fuck" again!
Mr. Garrison: Stanley!
Kenny: Fuck!
Mr. Garrison: Kenny!
Cartman: What's the big deal? It doesn't hurt anybody. Fuck-fuckety-fuck-fuck-fuck.
Mr. Garrison: How would you like to go see the school counselor?
Cartman: How would you like to suck my balls?
Mr. Garrison: What did you say?!
Cartman: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Actually, what I said was... HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SUCK MY BALLS?!
Stan: Holy shit, dude.

I have the mouth of a truck driver in person, but tone it down for the internet. (Although I've had my fill of message boards that outlaw profanity -- raise your fucking kids somewhere else, you lazy fucks.) And I never saw any place for it in music. I don't recall ever writing or performing a song that had anything worse than "hell" in it. I guess I just think music is sacred -- even though there isn't a single word in the history of words that so much as raises my eyebrow.

Thanks Hutter. I knew we'd agree on something sooner or later.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but I was agreeing with Manekineko. You just posted quicker than me. As a matter of fact, we agree more often than not. I just keep my flap shut when we do have the same point of view. I hate using "ditto" in posts.

And I would never refer to you as "darlin". You're cute and all, but I don't swing that way. Sorry.

Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.

"The effectiveness of these words today is so diluted." BRAVO Words only have the power we give them. Over use takes away that power so, how you doing niggar?

Technically curse words are like, God dam you to hell. Jesus fucking Christ would be taking the lords name in vein, a big sin for some. Words that reflect body functions are more like bad manners to me.

I NEVER curse in front of the wrong people like kids, bosses, etc. But there is a time and place for everything. I love to curse. I have an old friend that is female and a hottie at that. I love getting together with her because she curses all the time and I find it so funny. And I get to curse too. I love to curse but as long as it fits. Its stupid if every word is F. You have to sprinkle it on a conversation.

I love to curse in Russian! The Ruskies at work laugh like crazy because I curse so well in Russian.

And you guys are right, gosh darn dang? Fuck you! Curse already! Don't make up words. I find people that use those words actually have the dirtiest mouths of all.

I swear way too much & I know it's just being lazy on my part. I saw this very story on the news this morning & it made me think of the words I use. I'm going to work on it...it'll be a loooooong road to recovery...

I think substituting crap, sugar, fudge, & all that other happy horseshit (oopps...there I go again)is just as bad. It all means the same thing...

On the other hand, sometimes at work I feel like I need to use these words to effectively communicate. "Sex" has far too many connotations for some people & God only knows what it means to them. You might be suprised by how many people (adults, mind you,) have no idea what "intercourse," or "penis" is.) Sometimes I just have to say "Put a rubber on your dick everytime you f***." Then they get it...

Philly, you're a genius. I often say that there hasn't been enough curse words to properly communicate how I feel. I think you're on to something!

I side with Lenny Bruce on this: It's not the words. It's the intent behind the words.

If some guy says to me "What a fucking nice day!"..I'm not offended

If some guy says to me "I want to fuck your dog"..then I'm offended.
