Never read the book but saw the movie. Enjoyed it. I just took it for what it was: entertainment. It's a more cerebral version of National Treasure.

I started to read the book but couldn't get past the first few chapters. Went to the movie, didn't really get into it there either. The ideas are old and don’t hold up as presented.
Mary Magdelene and Jesus had sex and kids and this makes him human rather than divine. Why? Why does sex cancel godhood? Anyone? It seems to me that if God made his son human than having sex and children would be a necessary part of that. How much easier is it to give up the life of an aesthetic? Mary’s DNA can be obtained and compared to living humans matches are the descendents of Christ? How, without his DNA, can we tell who the father was?
I can imagine that god is real and sent his son to earth to suffer and die for our sins. I can imagine that Christ was married and had children, I can’t imagine we can use DNA testing to determine fatherhood without the fathers DNA.

My favorite alternate Jesus story is Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins. Some hippy freaks, who run a flea circus near Seattle, get on the wrong side of the militant branch of the Catholic Church. They find the body of Christ, tossed in a sealed room under the Vatican, and steal it. In the end they ascend it into heaven in a hot air balloon.

I didn't that them having sex/kids one was of the explanations as to why "they" thought he was human.

On the other hand, what are the explanations that make him divine? There is no proof either.

I just saw the movie. The Da Vinci code was pretty damn good. I never read the book. If you are the type of person who would watch a documentary on the History Channel about the history of the Catholic Church you might like it. I do think you need to have a basic background on early Christianity and to maybe know something about the Holy Grail to fully appreciate it.

Same here. If you want to get religion, look no further than Hollywood (and whatever the British equivelant of Hollywood is). I didn't know that Judas has a thing for dressing like Elvis until I saw Jesus Christ Superstar, or that he had a fro. Thank you Hollywood for faithfully bringing the Bible to life! Wasn't there a Jesus movie in the 70's where Jesus was portrayed as some kind of street mime, and was crucified on a chain link fence? Was it called Godspell, or did I dream the whole crappy thing up?
