Great links. Hard to believe anyone could be so short-sighted as to claim that treating employees fairly is a bad thing. This says it all:

Annual worker turnover rate
Costco 24%
Wal-Mart 50%

Not only would you have considerably less training expense, you'd have happier, more knowledgable employess on the front line waiting on the customers. Isn't customer service ultimately what brings people back?

Low price plays a huge role in people's decision on where to shop.

Personally, I try very hard not to shop at wal-mart.

I've never been to Cosco but I did see a show about the company on T.V. The CEO's salary is nothing compared to other CEO's. It's rare when a company tries to do the right thing for their employees.
I believe Starbucks also is pretty good to their employees. They offer everyone who works for them medical benefits. Which is great.
And I have never been in a Starbucks either.

Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone. One more question how much do the memberships run? At work they were offering it for $50, that came with a $20 gift card and $20 worth of in store coupons.

I go there bi-monthly to get bulks of shaving cream, medicines, etc. and if I have room in the freezer, I'll use a trip to stock up. I'll go there either on a full stomach and avoid the samples, or skip a meal deliberately for the samples (but if they're not ready, I will not wait for them). But I agree, it's too much big sizes and bulks of stuff for one person.

One method I've done is shop with a friend, and when we're done we split up packages, etc. and take half, each.

[/quote]I signed up for the Executive membership ($100 annually) to inflate my ego.

No, that's not true. But the Exec level lets you in one hour before the masses and Costco sends you a nice rebate check for something like 2% of your purchases. I think the net cost is about the same as the regular membership.
A few years back their auto buying program saved me thousands on an SUV.

Costco is reason why they invented the Second Refrigerator.

You do have to be a bit supermarket savvy and have a rough idea of how much things not in bulk cost to determine whether you're getting a good deal. You can't go wrong with paper products like tissues, TP, and paper towels, and many of their frozen items are tasty and convenient. And I especially like the Really Large Bag of M & M's (got one today).

However, some items are just absurdly large and provide little cost benefit, and are likely to spoil or gather dust before full consumption. Not Hershey's chocolate syrup, though. They can't make that big enough.

Good deals on automobile tires, too.

My membership was renewed for $54 and change this past summer.

If you have an American Express Business card you don't have to pay CostCo membership. Or maybe it's the other way around and you don't have to pay for Amex membership if you're a member of CostCo. I have no head for minor details [:(] At least the mundane ones [}:)]
