Enya, Yanni, John Tesh and the like all sound appealing at first listen. But for me, the shelf life isn't there. It gets boring, old and dated very quickly.

Didn't they use "Only Time" by Enya in those incessant promo ads for Rachel and Ross's wedding on Friends? Doubt if anyone has used that overplayed cliche of a song at their wedding since.

Now if Enya were to turn Goth and put out her "black" album, I'd be interested. Until then I'll stick with Zamfir.

I always thought Steeleye Span was more English than Irish. But regardless, they're wonderful. You've reminded me how much I love their album Parcel of Rogues.

edisonoside: Yes! Loreena McKennitt is great, and she's from Canada. Book of Secrets is a good album, and I love the song Marco Polo.

Pretty good but Book Of Days still her best IMHO. Check out The River Sings, Drifting and Long Long Journey. [;)]

I worked in a few record stores like Sam The Record Man as well and I could never stand her, Loreena McKennitt or the yuppy fans that would rush in to buy the cds and start talking to me about them like I was a fan as well just because we were forced to play the cd in the store.

Rachel & Ross never had a wedding, but I remember them playing that Enya song incessantly for a promo. It was either Monica & Chandler's wedding, or Rachel's baby news; or maybe it was when Rachel & Joey got together and they kicked the hype machine into overdrive.

I strongly disagree.

I think of Yanni as more of a creamy feta. Tesh is brie served with a pretentious white wine. Enya is like a mild white Stilton that leaves you hungry an hour later.

Sure. Her sister, Moya Brennan. Check out Chicane's Saltwater, with her singing vocals. So cool that Ireland used it for some tourist commercial. She sings a couple of tracks on the latest <a href="http://www.schillerserver.de/tagundnacht/index_eng.html" target=_blank>Schiller</a> album too.

Definitely some varying opinions. Despite the fact that she sometimes sounds a bit redundant, I quite like her. I'm pleased to see someone with a unique sound like hers having commercial success.

I like that Chicane tune "Saltwater" that someone referred to earlier. But Trance Music has pretty much taken over as my genre of choice here in the 21st Century.

Enya is da bomb! I play her music or anything by Olivia Newton-John whenever I get insomnia. Works great!
