I just dug out two old bottles - Stetson and Calvin Klein - very dusty. The only vaguely cologney things I currently have are Dr. Galen's shave cream and aftershave by C.O. Bigelow Apothocaries (Est. 1838). Now that I think about my visit to the mens department in Saks, I'm also remembering the two predominant brands being showcased were The Art of Shaving and Kiehl's Since 1851 - lots of old school shaving brushes, razors, and creams, AAARRRRR!

Oh Jesus, now I'm also remember those corny Canoe Canoe commercial with the man and woman using nautical signals from their sailboats. Was it something like...

C - come on over
A - anytime
N - how 'bout now
O - okay!

I forget the E...erection?

Yup! I remember that too.

"C - Come on over. A - Alone. N - Now. Oh. Eeee. Can you canoe?" They played this on MTV all the time around '87."

I copy and pasted the above quote off of a commercial web site.

Halston Z-14 is what I had in my locker Senior Year. Polo was the year before.

I second the girls who wore "poison"--it seemed as if every girl in my HS wore it

In the '80s, I smelled like Stiff Stuff.

I seem to collect cologne. Does this stuff go bad?

But Poison... I remember that. All the girls I liked seemed to wear it, and if they didn't, I bought it for them.

I wore a lot of stuff in the 80s that I still wear . . . Pavlova and Fracas were the scents of my new wave days. (My mom wore Anais Anais, my sis wore Fendi.)

Poison didn't come out until 1986 so it was a little past my peak NW time. But OMG did I love, love, love Poison in college. I still wear it, even though it's getting hard to find. In fact, I wore it today! [:D][:p]

When I was in 007 or Spit and I smelled petchouli oil (I always thought it was petrouli) I knew my friends were there.
To this day when I smell a girl with Fendi on...I know it and get turned on. I hooked up with a girl in a club that always wore it.

yes, it is hard to find anymore.
I never wore it a lot, b/c I'm mildly allergic, but just a smidgen now and then would be OK, and smelled so good !

Ralph Lauren Polo was the big one at my high school, even some of the girls wore it.

I look back at those days in my preppy Ralph Lauren clothes and Tretorn Running shoes or Bass Weejuns and cringe...

LOL! I tried Polo once, smelled like shit on me... I remember my Dad asking me who farted in the car... Gave the bottle I got as a B-Day gift to a friend, he wore it just fine I'm guessing...

Other mentions:

Brut (Joe Namath's brand)
Hai Karate (mentioned B4, but those crazy ads were they guy chopped everything in half!)
Anything by Avon smelled to high heaven
Russian Leather (smelled better than its opposite, English Leather!)
Old Spice, really smelly
After shave stuff by Norelco, called??? Oh yeah: Aqua Velva
Pinaud's Clubman (anyone remember that one?)
Anything Musk, I hated... it's the sent from the male animals testicles, used to mark territories with... ha!

And some really smelly stuff I have to check under the sink for, you'll have to wait a couple of days for the name, sorry... it's French named for sure, like Vetiveire, or shit like that!

Currently, I like/use/wear: Alfred Song (green bottle), Carolina Herrera (been wearing that for over 20 years now!) for men, another all-time fave: Issey Miyake, Cool Water (not wearing for a few years now, and my most fave: Hugo Boss!!! (Da Boss/Da Bomb IMHO!!!)
