"Our first step is to establish identity," said Constable Sharlene Brooks of the Delta Police Department in British Columbia. "It is a little mysterious, but we don't know if it is linked to others."

I want to bring Constable Sharlene Brooks with me whenever I need to deflect questions I don't want to answer.

Now there are six:

PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Police in Washington say a black athletic shoe found on a beach in Clallam county contained human remains.

Undersheriff Ron Peregrin said Monday that the King County medical examiner determined the foot was human, and detached from its body naturally after floating in the water.

The shoe was found Friday along the Strait of Juan de Fuca - a saltwater channel about 22 kilometres wide that separates Washington's Olympic Peninsula from British Columbia's Vancouver island.

U.S. authorities are working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to see whether there's a connection to five feet that have washed ashore in British Columbia.

Since August 2007, four men's feet and a woman's right foot have been found on Canadian beaches.

Peregrin says the foot will be sent for a forensic investigation, with results of a DNA profile taking six to eight weeks.

The remains appear to be from a human right foot and were inside a man's low-cut athletic shoe, possibly used for hiking.

DNA testing linked one of the Canadian feet to a depressed man who went missing a year ago.

Investigators have also concluded that two of the five feet belonged to one man.

A sixth foot found in June in B.C. was determined to be an animal paw that had been shoved inside an athletic shoe as a hoax.

They should take it to CSI NY and have the DNA results back before the next commercial

Out of curiosity, how does a foot get detached from its body naturally? I understand a sneaker getting detached naturally but how does a foot become astray from its ankle?

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

If they find a foot with "Love Your Shoes" tatooed on the side, it's mine. Just in case.

Bonus points to the first keener to put a band name to the song reference!

[i]Because of the island's position in the Strait of Georgia, it's not unusual for bodies, torsos, legs and arms to wash ashore, he said.<I/>
