For what it's worth, I voice my opinion here, whether you or anybody else like what I have to say is of no consequence to me. I accord a great deal of respect to many on this board for one reason...they have earned it.

One last thing...I know I'm not alone in my appraisal of various people on this board...the only difference between them and me is they are just too polite to speak up.

TJ--thanks for the comment that I'm cool. Right back at ya you disco ball licking lollypop![8D]
Mechi--I will admit sometimes you reveal your emotions to guys who will attack them. Posting true emotion here is not recommended. Email me if you need to talk.

This "clique" that may be the reference here is all a joke--all are invited into the soap opera---we are just having fun what is the harm?

try and make constructive comments rather than abusive ones.

Take a lesson.

This forum has been taken over by a clique of attention-whoring, self esteem-challenged people and I've grown tired of it (I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but as eight6 says, there's plenty of us out here.)

"Don't read our posts" is probably the words next out of your mouths, but you've made it damned near impossible to avoid you by posting anywhere and everywhere.

If you need this much attention, go to myspace.

i have no interest in "earning" respect (let me guess you're going to quote that line but take it in it's correct context and let me finish)..if people like or respect me then that's fantastic...if they don't then they don't and there's not a lot i can do about that, i'm not going to change who i am or my viewpoints for anyone. i do actually have a lot of respect for quite a few members and ex-members of this site.

the threads i've participated in have usually always been the jokey and having a laugh ones. if you don't like my sense of humour...get over it as that's what i did with the posts i didn't like or took offence to...unless you start picking on people and singleing them out for abuse.

ok so if there's loads of people out there who don't like us and what we're saying by having a laugh and a joke, why not say something before rather then it become like this and getting personal? a quiet word would have been good enough. however these character assasinations are getting beyond a joke. i'm not surprised people have left.

it's funny eight6 how every time there's a narky thread you're in the middle of it...

i quite like my personal decadent narcissim!

noone does guilt quite like the catholics...i actually asked one of my old family friends who's a nun about this and the new pope, she replied..."god works in mysterious ways...but sometimes he likes having a joke too"

i can understand what he's saying about genetic manipulation though as, to be honest, i don't agree with the concept of it. ok yes, i agree with it to some extent but for us to start messing around with nature and perverting the course of evolution (if you're a darwinist!) just seems wrong to me. ok, yes, we could help people with genetic illnesses and such like, but where will it end?

oh well...

just to show i did actually post an opinion on the original subject!

also to add...i'm just concerned about the genetic manipulation of dna and if, those who can afford it, will abuse it to create their own 'perfect' offspring. the beauty of human life is in our quirks and imperfections.

it just reminds me of a certain dicator who tried a similar thing except there weren't the medical advances then as there are today.

The whole genetic manipulation thing has been on my mind since yesterday. I'm in favor it of.

I know what you're saying Toe about the people who would be able to "engineer" a perfect baby. But, for every one person who could afford that - there are hundreds of thousands, even millions who could not, or would not want to afford that. So much about who, or what a child becomes is about upbringing and experience - that's something that can't be genetically manipulated.

This type of thing never concerns me anyways. We've been doing genetic manipulation for hundreds of years. Think about dogs - I'm sure there weren't poodles & pomerainians accompanying Cro-Magnon's on a hunt. We've bred plants and animals for years to serve a purpose.

We can't alter evolution anyways - we may play a small part in it, but it's too full of variables and offshoots for us to make a such a huge impact (other than destroying the environment - but that's a whole other issue.) I think it boils down to pure human arrogance in thinking that we could direct the course of something like evolution, natural selection and exploitation of an ecosystem or opportunity. In a million years the world will be a very different place - by our own hands or not. It's natural & it's just the way things were intended to be.

fair enough wolvie but i wasn't talking about changing the entire human race! lol!

what i mean is...even one slight dna manipulation could be enough to alter things if that person reproduced. take for instance your point about dogs...labradoodles were never meant to be here but humans created them. why? what point do they serve apart from not shedding hair?

it might take a few thousand years but what effect will that have on this planet?

natural selection is a different thing...lets just leave it to mother nature to sort us all out...

if we don't go all nuclear beforehand though and blow up the entire planet

I'm quite certain nobody here set out to earn respect...it just happened through the quality of the posts they made, and the musical knowledge they possess. I've yet to see much on either front from you.

You have a sense of humour?...I guess I just read it as a string of half assed nonsensical posts that really say nothing. I guess it's true what they say, you learn something new every day.

If people have left NWO, it has more to do with the grade school level the board has sunk to lately...it has nothing to do with the fact that an increasing number of us are voicing the obvious. There have always been disagreements on the board, but in the past the combatants possessed both the intellect and fortitude to argue their point without resorting to the simplistic cry of "hate". If you don't possess those qualities, it's got nothing to do with me.

Yes, it is funny, especially when you or one of your fellow Promethius Society friends bring me into it. I find it similarly funny how everytime there is a thread that is totally devoid of intellect, you play a starring role: but that's the way of the world I guess.

That's pretty much the adventure of man: Attempting to control and manipulate the course of nature to fit its needs. I'm all for genetic explorations. There's just no way I'd sit back when there's an interesting story to be told.

Ratzinger was part of the Hitler youth, but that's hardly something one could blame him for... he was a kid and it was compulsory at the time, I believe.

Thanks for the correction. You should try paying as much attention to your posts, many of which have multiple typos. I guess you have so little to work with you have to grasp at whatever you can.

breakthroughs in genetics give us a promise and a bit of a quandry. the promise is that we could be able to treat and prevent a host of debilitating diseases but the quandry is that this genetic knowledge may also enable us to change our own nature. we could use it to choose the sex, height, and other genetic traits of our children. to make ourselves "better than well." science is moving faster than our moral understanding these days, and we tend to struggle to articulate our fears about it. are we reaching first for the concept of autonomy, fairness, and individual rights? part of our moral vocabulary is ill equipped to address the hardest questions posed by genetic engineering. who's to say whos right or wrong?

ok cloning. dolly the cloned sheep, in 1997, brought a LOT of concern about the prospect of cloned human beings. There are good medical reasons to worry. most scientists agree that cloning is unsafe, likely to produce offspring with serious abnormalities. dolly died a premature death...but what if technology improved to the point where clones were at no greater risk than those naturally conceived? would human cloning still be objectionable? should we be hesitant from the moral or medical standpoint? what, exactly, is wrong with creating a child who is a genetic twin of one parent, or of an older sibling who has died or, for that matter, of a scientist, sports person, or celebrity?

...why do i feel the need to watch weird science right now?
