And another thing!
Look at the irish. Hated. Despised.Irish need not apply signs in all the work places. Thought of as sub human. Never before and never after has there been imagrants hated as much. And guess what? They stayed and became a part of society with all the odds against them.

But its a transaction.

Money speaks louder than actions or words.
If I were getting money for something- I wouldnt care if they spoke to me in Chinese or Arabic or anything.

I agree, and that's why I don't think we should make it any easier for immigrants. Hell, my great-great-grandfather emigrated from Germany; he was forced to register as an alien during World War One--Yet, he thrived and survived. He assimilated. He got off better than many others; thousands of loyal german-americans were forced to change their names during WWI due to anti-german hysteria. German was almost a primary language in north central Kansas, now no one speaks it. But within twenty years, german-americans were leading the war effort against the Nazis, and within thirty years, one was elected president

The irish were treated as subhumans, and were packed into slums and hovels. They were denied entry to businesses, and denied jobs. What did they do? They created their own businesses; they created their own jobs. They assimilated, and now nobody cares about the irish. They're the second largest ethnic group in America.

Basically, the point I'm trying to make is, that by putting up barriers in immigration, in making it harder, you make them have to assimilate, you make them have to work to gain acceptance. Why should Mexicans get a carte blanche when the poles, the chinese, the irish, etc. didn't? Assimilate, or leave.

DAMN good point. America offers the "pursuit" of happiness, not happiness on a silver platter, ready to be given to whoever comes here, legally or illegally. When you take competition out of the equasion, you're not much better off than any communist country.

That's so racist and disrespectful towards the Latin community.
I wouldn't call it racist, so much as ethnocentric--and hey, look at it this way. Say I go into Buenos Aires, live there for five years, and fail to learn spanish. Say I go into a restaurant--keep going into a restaurant--and keep ordering meals in english, never learning any of the tongue in order to expedite the transaction--indeed, forcing the clerks and the propieter of the restaurant to learn the language in order to accomodate me? Who would be more disrespectful? Me, for failing to assimilate to the needs and requirements of his host country, or them for failing to accomidate an outsider who doesn't know the language of his host country?

Basically, I can't believe people are so up in arms about this--I have to estimate the number of hispanics eating cheesesteak in philly is already pretty low. It's nothing but an brilliant marketing ploy--it offended a lot of overly sensitive people, some not even in this country, which I like--and he'll undoubtedly get a lot of business because of it among resentful non-latinos. A prime example of American entrepreneurial spirit!
