Phil, I never got to thank you for informing me about this program. I never saw any of the earlier specials. And like some of the other members here, I watch very, very little TV. But I'm glad I forced myself to watch this - wow, how disturbing to see these complete degenerates in action. Quite a difference than just reading about them in the news after getting caught. Guys, just let me know when the posse goes out on a revenge spree. I'm all into it [:(!] I have a five year old son and an almost two year old daughter. I would have no problem doing time if necessary for knuckling down some of these low life bastards that threaten the lives, safety, psychology and futures of children. What a fucking loser, to go to a thirteen year old's house in the middle of the night with a case of beer.....[xx(]

I agree with everyone who thinks they should be killed (or at the very least, castrated AND forehead-tattooed). But that will never happen and it's all because of the ridiculous belief we have in this country that all life is worthwhile and all the bad people can be fixed. We think we're so fucking advanced as a species, but in reality humans can be the dumbest creatures alive. The main reason why this is should be obvious, but since it's not to so many people, I'll just leave that alone and say that even animals know when to cut their losses and kill one of their own. We should too.

Child molesters: Get rid of 'em.

If there's one thing that makes me insane, I mean really make me see red, it's crimes against children.

Sad thing is I once dated a woman who was vehemently anti-death penalty and she had a 2 year old. When I brought up cases of child molestation/murder she would'nt budge on the issue and said she would STILL prefer life in prison. I said "can we put 'em in prison for 50 years, beat the shit out of them every day and THEN kill them". She said "No, that would bring us down to their level". My response was "Uh...no..not really."

We broke up (not over that though).

Y'all need to stop talking about it over a public forum. If you're gonna give the creeps what they deserve, say nothing and just do it. They're not hard to find. They live in every neighborhood, and there are sites that help you find the scumbuckets.

This is all hypothetical, you understand. No one here would actually hunt these poor souls down, would we? [;)]

Wolverine had a really good point. I never thought about them pleading down the case. That must happen alot to spare the kids from testifying. That sucks.

Um.....Yeah......I'm gonna have to disagree with you here on this one......

There is a non-minor percentage of people out there (libertarians, for example) who feel that regardless of the situation, the government shouldn't execute it's own citizens.

I'm not one of them, and if any sick fuck touches my kids, they won't die slow enough........

Not to rain on the lynch mob here, but what kids? The would-be pedos talked to adults (many of them employees of Perverted Justice whom Dateline paid -- thus rendering this entire series of specials worthless journalism), there were no kids in the house, and so they didn't get the opportunity to molest any kids. I've always been morally opposed to sting operations -- be they for child molestation, drugs, prostitution, or those dopey little segments on "Cops" where they leave a bike lying around and wait for people to ride it -- and can't see any way to justify sticking a life sentence on someone for intent to commit this kind of crime. Never mind the death penalty. If the creeps caught on camera go and molest some kids, by all means, lock 'em up. There are worse things that can happen to a child than being molested. Being murdered for one. And how many murderers get the death penalty these days...

Of course, half the time, the only pederasts who actually get locked up for life are those who have child pornography on their computers. Just ask that poor sap in Arizona who had 20 such pictures on his. 10 years per photo. Now that's perverted justice.

okay...

... but what was that poor sap doing with kiddie porn on his computer, anyways? How can that be justified?

Those sickos get NO sympathy from me. The sting operations, in these cases, are a damn good thing. If the pervs didn't respond to the stings, their time would have been spent finding REAL kids.

STRING 'EM UP!

You know, a lot of myspace problems would be solved if parents would fucking tell their sons & daughters to put some clothes on in their profile picture.

No, really.

I want to put a big banner when uploading pictures on myspace:

GIRLS KEEP YOUR PANTS ON

BOYS KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON

How hard is it?

First, the intent to have sex with children is there, they engaged in conversation with the kids online, purchased alcohol, condoms, etc. and drove long distances to hook up (several over 100 miles).
To compare that to a bicycle lying around is absurd.
If I shoot someone and "hope" they die but somehow they miraculously survive in a vegetative state for the rest of their life, this isn't murder but it was definitely my intent, so by your argument I should be punished less severely until I actually go kill someone?

It's only a matter of time that one of these people actually do go meet with someone (if they haven't already!!) and there are no cameras present and they do molest some kid and are never seen or caught.

You can make the argument that prevention doesn't work but if one person sees these shows and they decide to not go meet some kid they talked to online, I say well done!

Oh, by the way, these people on the show did not commit any act of molestation, they did break the law and should be punished. To think these crimes don't actually happen is misinformed.

Myspace seems to be the hot topic these days and I agree it's not their fault, but they have created an outlet and should make some easy tweaks to make their sites more safe.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/internet/0 ... index.html

Finally, to call it worthless jounalism is laughable. If one parent spends a little more time discussing it with their children and that one child is more safe online, I hardly find that worthless. If you multiply it by thousands , a much larger justice was served, from a parent-child aspect alone, let alone a potential deterrent to would be predators.

I agree, the parent in me gets a little carried away with all the lynch mob talk, but truly, murdering a child, molesting a child, the outcome should be the same. If you were trying to molest a child and the only reason you didn't was because the camera crews and the police were there......not sure I really care if the punishment is too severe.

Prevention does work, as does education - it's been proven time and time again on a massive range of topics.

"Intent" is a punishable crime.

Because they did it on the internet - it's a federal crime. There are a multitude of charges associated with this - beyond child molestation.

To back things up a bit, the specials were on "Dateline" -- a show which once faked a car explosion to tell a story. So they have no credibility with me. None. At all. "America's Most Wanted" did a child predator episode of their own this weekend, and I sympathized with the cause there. Because one can certainly feel John Walsh's pain. "Dateline" is leering trash, and has no business tackling serious subjects. They should stick to covering hot fashions for fall or Tom Cruise's latest leap into insanity.

Obviously, the subjects on "Dateline" who confessed or who had priors for this, there's no arguing with that. For the rest, I wasn't sitting in on those chats and so I'm not sold. Because it's "Dateline." And they faked a car explosion. But to say that they can't let them go with a warning... well, you know, I don't know if you saw the first couple of "To Catch a Predator" segs that were aired, but that's exactly what happened.

If I were to walk a mile in a child predator's shoes -- and I don't necessarily want to -- I believe they're all mentally ill, and probably think of themselves as children. So it's not surprising to me that they don't get reformed after being thrown in prison. Jail isn't going to reform them. A psychiatric institution might.

Parents (assuming they're not the ones doing the molesting) certainly do need to educate their kids at their earliest opportunity, starting with all the tips given on "America's Most Wanted."

I never said intent wasn't a punishable crime. I said it wasn't a death penalty crime.
