I am very bad with geography. I know little about places I have never been to. Please share and include what kind of bugs or vermin you have.
Mechi-please answer this thread. I picture very tropical, hot, dancing, and giant roaches.
Hutter, I picture Tennessee very hot, lots of fields and swamps, lots of pick up trucks. Come on people lets share.
I live in Brooklyn NY. It is a huge sub. of NYC. It is crowded. We have possums and raccoons which is very weird because it is very city like here but they adapted to life here. We also have parrots. Thats right. They escaped a crate at the airport about 20 years ago and also adapted. They make nests on the power boxes so they stay warm in winter. They are really cool and I love to hear the squauking.

You're confusing Tennessee for Louisiana. The weather's pretty mild here for most of the year. We have four seasons like y'all up north, only not as extreme. You're right on about the pick-up trucks. My back-up mode of transport is a '78 El Camino. It's not unusual to see 10 or 15 cars on blocks parked in front of a mobile home. And there are a crapload of illegal mexicans up here nowadays. The locals don't know how to take it all. Hell, I stay out of it, my being a product of the mid-west and one of my brothers being Vietnamese.

Well, Philly... Argentina it's a really big country. So the weather and geographical areas differ a lot between themselves.
For example, the northwestern area of the country is very with a beautiful mountain/valley landscape. Some parts of it, are desertic. That would be the Cuyo section of the country that includes the provinces of Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, San Juan and Mendoza. That's the link to a photo of Jujuy:

Then, the northeastern part of the country is really tropical and has a beautiful forest full of wild species. There are some very popular waterfalls there called "Cataratas del Iguazú". I'm also adding a link: http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/pacs/ ... uazu02.jpg
Then there's the central part of the country.. called Pampa Húmeda. That includes Buenos Aires province, the place where I live. As for the bugs... except for Patagonia, there are f.... everywhere: roaches, mosquitos, whatever you want. Beetlejuice would really dig Argentina!!

It's another partly cloudy day here in Southern California. I live in Lakewood in a two story house. I share a room with my aunt. We get lots of possums in our backyard. They seem to like to tease our dogs. Darn little critters. There was once a family of rats living in our attic once. YIKES! Also as of late our streets have been flooding with cats and cats and more cats. Every night they keep us awake meowing and stuff. A guy across our road had bough a couple. Male and Female. They had a bunch of kittens. I think he let them go. But now they're everywhere. There was three in our garage last week. What should we do? They're on people's roofs. In backyards. And a lady across our street spotted one in her kitchen the other week. She had to call animal control. I like cats. But these ones in our neighborhood are becoming a big nusance.

Tobacco chewing dominates the area where Im from.
Everyone chews tobacco...and everyone has trucks, SUVs, and SUTs.

I live on a large hill overlooking a velley. Its all in a valley surrounded my mountains. There is nobody out where we live.
Its crazy. The house that we live in was build with lots of really really huge windows and you can see everything outside from them.

Its awesome.
Its relatively dry here. The southern side of our hill is dead. I dont knnow why its dry in central North Carolina...but it is. We see snow.

The local high schools are filled with Southern Baptists wholl promptly kick your ass if your anything other than Christian, though. So its not all cool. But the mountains look pretty. There are lots of forests and cows and TOBACCO. There are about 21 tobacco feilds between my house...and the nearest town.

And EVERYONE smokes. (myself included)

Philly, I live in a far off, scary, unfamiliar place for you; "Not NYC, New York." It's about 4 hours "up & west" from you.

We have lots of nice rolling hills & countryside here, with a gray/black smudge right in the center called the city of Syracuse. People here are ok, just like everywhere else I suppose, although the city is pretty segregated. We have a lot of born agains & evangelicals who go to multi-million dollar churches & protest just about everything. Many people here do not have a lot of teeth, wear half shirts, drive trucks and fight in public a lot. There are also tons of suburban people like myself who are as bland as toast.

It's cold in the winter and really humid in the summer. I have pretty much the same problems with squirrels that you do philly - except for the flying squirrel in my attic - he's cool. We have far too many deers, although there's been a huge influx of coyotes lately. Maybe they'll take care of it.

Further down the road, they've been having problems with bears roaming into yards & stuff. Personally, I would encourage them to come into my yard if it would keep the asshole neighbor kids from tramping through it looking for their soccer balls, etc.

Jumshift - I had the same problem with cats a couple of years ago. My neighborhood was crawling with them. It seemed to even itself out though - between the cars, dogs, hawks & stuff...and I suspect a lot of them just couldn't make it through the winter (except the really awful, ratty & vicious one that lives somewhere out behind my house for the past 5 years now.)

Yeah. Seems the guy who bought them (well the first two, then all the kittens) couldn't take care of them all so threw them all out on the streets. Now they're growing like wildflowers. They're literally taking over our neighborhhod. Also there's a lot of frogs where I live. There's one that's still in my backyard pool. I'm still contemplating whether or not I should let it live in my fish tank. No, that's probably not a good idea.

It's another sunny day here in New Mexico. We have sun 360 days of the year, no kidding. Our first and only snowfall happened last Wednesday, 2 inches which put most schools on a 2-Hr. Delay.

This is a gorgeous state! It's referred to as the "high desert", as our high altitude gives it a different spin. Hot days, altho not as hot as Phoenix/ AZ. Cooled-down nights. We're at the bottom of the Rocky Mtn. chain, and we have inactive volcano peaks and gorgeous, wide mesas. It's a very "wide-open" state, and we are one of the least populated states. Fabulous sunsets, wide open blue sky. Red rocks & sharp spiky mountains. Few forests, greenery....lots of brown, but lots of cacti too.

Most homes around here are adobe, which is like hardened mud (not really, but that is its appearance). I personally love it--it's unique and so southwestern.

All kinds of crazy critters--giant roaches/ waterbugs, snakes, tarantulas, black widows, lizards, coyotes, roadrunners (yes! running around on the streets), and tumbleweeds. It's not unususal to see someone driving around with a tumbleweed munched up in their front bumper, unbeknowest to them.

It's mostly Hispanic here, both Spaniard ancestry and Mexican, so you hear lots of Spanish spoken everywhere. hardly any other ethnicities besides that and Anglo. It's a very Catholic State--Spring Break is normally tied to Easter, and everybody gets Good Friday off, only it's called "Vernal Holiday" to make it sound PC. We have a bazillion Mexican immigrants, who all seem to have roofing or agriculture jobs. Junk cars all over, but lots and lots of gorgeous "classic" (20s, 30s, 40s and up) cars as well, b/c we have such great weather that you can actually drive them around.

And finally, altho there are big pockets of farming/rural conservatism, NM is overwhelmingly progressive/ liberal. Big hippie scene in the 60s/70s gave way to a lot of free-thinking politics and strident individualism. It seems like everybody smokes pot. Normally NM votes blue, altho in the last election, it went red ([:(]).

I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, which is on the opposite side of the state from Knoxville. It's flat land, unlike the hills and mountains near Knoxville. Memphis is very black/white segregated. White flight occurred ages ago, leaving few neighborhoods that are integrated. I left 15 years ago, and haven't been back. There aren't any unusual bugs or vermin.

Now I'm in Austin, TX. If you're a liberal, it's the liberal oasis in conservative Texas. If you're a conservative, it's the People's Republic of Austin. It's a great place to live, but you have to be prepared for summers that last 6 months. It's not a desert here, but scrub land begins in the Hill Country to the west of the city. Armadillos and scorpions are present in small numbers here. I've only seen one live armadillo. They're really good at becoming roadkill.

i currently live in scotland on the far north east coast...it's blinking gorgeous!

it's very cold though.

i live right next to the sea. i love being able to walk down by the sea front when it's stormy and feel the sea spray. we had a porpoise wash up on the beach a few weeks ago after it had been killed by dolphins who were protecting their young...that wasn't so nice but watching the dolphins out at sea is!

anyhoo...no pics as of yet but as soon as my mate finds his cable for his digital camera i promise to post some!

.....and the only vermin i've come across have been of the two legged slimey "can i buy you a drink" kind....

My best friend lives in Austin now. Last time I was on the phone with her she was telling me there was a scorpion in her bathroom. That really freaked me out considering she wants me to move down there and help her milk goats. I live in Chicago where, as Philly who started this thread states about people from NJ--we Chi-towners feel the same way about the Cheeseheads from Wisconsin. THEY CAN'T DRIVE!!!!!

Oh and an entire city block blew up 4 blocks from my parent's house 5 years ago because of a Mafia attack. I once worked as an assistant manager at a Walgreens and the head cashier told me just because I wanted to drop her money in the safe at the time she did not approve of--that she could have me killed. She wasn't kidding. Thus is my neighborhood....
