One Good Thing or One Bad Thing?

Here I am, wading into the crossfire without my Kevlar...
But anyway
Just now reading the thread about Atheists, and before it degenerated into an enlightened symposia on the definition of defication Motors and Jimbo's disscussion got me to thinking.

For those of you who consider yourself Pro-administration (I'd say pro-Bush, but there are several definitions of that)

What would it take for you to change your mind about the people currently in power in the U.S.

For example let's suppose (HYPOTHETICALS HERE) that Bush came on TV today and announced that he was reinacting the Draft due to the increasing need for solders in the Iraq, and declining recruitment

Or let's say that today a high level cabinet member leaked to the press a memo or tape recording that Bush not only knew about the lack of WMD in Iraq, but had decided months before 911 to go to war using whatever story he needed to to keep the people of America involved?

For the purpose of this let's not debate the veracity of the document above--it IS true. Would that change your support?

Now to the opposite end of the spectrum. For those against the Administration--What would it take for you to support it?

For Example (More hypotheticals, here) Today Bush announces that in Iraq a major Anti-american sect was captured by American forces, and that at their headquarters was a nearly completed "suitcase" atomic bomb?

Again, no need to deabte the truth of the announcement, assume it is true

Or another example: An independant report from the CIA announces the wire-tapping scheme that the adminstration has used has stopped 5 seperate anti-american groups in various stages of planning attacks against the U.S.

My purpose in this is to determine how closing the terms "liberal" and "conservative" fit people who describe themselves as such.

Now let me get out of the way of the crossfire[:D]

For me, what it would take to begin to support (in a small way) this Administration:
The terrorism issue isn't what I'm concerned about in regards to this question. I don't think there is anything Bush, or any other politician, Dem or GOP, can do about terrorists. To me, a big start would be to properly fund the wrecking ball called No Child Left Behind Act. (we call it No Child Gets Ahead). For him (& the Congress) to take some of that billions out of military spending and put it back into Education, social services, family planning services, infrastructure, and a myriad of other areas that really serve us, the people. To repeal some of the damage they've done to the environment due to this administration's cutbacks on Environmental safety policies. For him and his advisors to come clean about all the wool they've pulled over our eyes. For him to visit and mingle with "real" Americans, those of us in the working class, so he can know what it's really like to live and work in this country, trying to scrape by while tax cuts get extended to the upper class. To enact REAL health-care reform, whatever that may be. For Bush to sever all ties to corporate interests and not allow them to color his decisions. For him to remove himself from Cheney's Halliburton pocket. Generally just shifting his pro-business stance. Etc.
Oh boy, I can just picture Jimbo rubbing his hands together at this post and contemplating how to dissect everything I just said. Oh well. That's my story and I'm sticking to it[^]

I have to say I disagree, Jimbo. I've seen or know plenty of people who are pro-administration who are every bit as rigid and extreme in their views toward "liberals" or the "liberal media" as anything I've seen in the manner you describe.

For me to become a Bush supporter? He would have to prove to me that WMD existed before the war. It would help if those weapons were also in the hands of Sadam. I would still not support his economic policies. If Osama Bin Laden and al Qaeda were caught with a suitcase bomb I could accept that G.W. used deceptive reasoning and even lies for the well being of our country. I would still not support his economic policies. If some "sect" were caught in Iraq tomorrow with a suitcase bomb I would have to consider that the war in Iraq itself might have caused those people to build this thing.

The case of wiretapping is easier; the ends can not be allowed to justify the means, particularly when the means are unnecessary. The wire taps could have obtained legally and been just as effective. I would still believe that Bush should be impeached.

It's way too late. I wouldn't support him even if he handed me a check for 10 million dollars, promised me a threesome with Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba, made me a member of Sonic Youth, and let Cheney shoot him in the face.
