Punk was all about pushing people's buttons and one of the ways it did this was with political figureheads. Margaret Thatcher, Nixon, Reagan were all used. I'm helping a friend out with a punk inspired clothing collection but we don't want to be too cliche and re-use the same predictable icons for graphics. We want it to be more relevant and speak to today's youth rather than us aging youngsters [:D] So who would you say are today's "punk" targets?

Take your pick of any conservative republican, certainly won't be any liberal democrats on the list. I quess you also incluce Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Gary Bauer.

Any political figure would work. Bush, Hillary, doesn't matter. Hate if you want, but today's kids are a little more on the ball about who's to blame than folks from our generation were. Two of my employees (both in their late teens), who come from liberal households, see the liberals with their "kumbaya at the cost of our freedom, so let's invite the terrorists to our backyard and hug them" mentality as a bigger threat than George W.

i dont listen to too much new stuff.. but what i've heard isn't really politically motivated. I'm wondering why there arent more protest songs along the lines of "Whats Going On" by Marvin Gaye. Most of the politically motivated punk stuff i remember was aimed at the Queen or Margrett Thatcher. The Dead Kennedy's "Kinky Sex Makes the World Go Around" would be a fitting song to remake... An anti t shirt, the anti Bush, the anti gov... although Marv... its a thin line you walk being anti anything government and also avoiding a file be opened on ya by big brot...well you know who[;)]

How about a series of "HATE the Player" tshirts each depicting a different image of a political figure... although hate is such a strong word...

Like enzfan and hutter said, the windbags on TV and any well-known political figure are possibilities. Also, Wal-Mart, the UN, ribbon magnets on cars.

Marv, my instinct is to say that today's youth will attack each other rather than the establishment but that is something I'm too old to delve into or say anything relevant about...[|)]

Yeah right. How about the "liberal" democrats who tried to get Nader off teh ballot, tried to prevent him from running, refused to debate him,etc.

I think many kids today are more wrapped up in "causes" and celebrities rather than politics. I'd say something with Paris Hilton - black bar over the eyes - Big black "X" over her crotch, photoshop her clothes to be in rages, with "Rip Her To Shreds" scrawled across it.

I hate watching the evening news with all the happy fun stuff like murders, natural disasters, and politics, and then get assaulted by a "human interest" story that's nothing more than a publicity schill for some inane event like Katie Holmes getting knocked up by a metrosexual. The kids are getting sick of this shit, as is anyone with an IQ over 80.
