Apparently, corporate mark-ups are resulting in higher gas prices. Hmmm...I NEVER would have suspected that. But, this is pretty interesting to read, nonetheless:

Don't buy from EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

Demand for gasoline will still be there and prices can be kept where they are. It's not as if Mobil refineries only deliver to Mobil stations. They deliver to all stations, but they have their own stations too. If people keep consuming the way they are, it's only inevitable the prices will go up up up. Try not driving at all to make some kind of impact. Everyone should try it. Hell! Just one day where everyone does not drive could drive the message. Otherwise, targetting stations that have the name of a big oil company won't do shit.

Whether or not refineries sell equally to all stations is irrelevant because since Exxon-Mobil had tremendously higher profits than all the other gasoline companies means they sold more product, hence they necessarily made more money in gasoline sales and boycotting that brand will hurt their sales specifically.

Wolverine has an excellent point. If everyone worked together and picked one day not to buy gasoline, that would send a big signal to those greedy bast**ds.

When was that? I must've missed this when I was driving on the 5 from San Diego. Exxon-Mobil will sell well if people just go buy their gasoline at other stations. All those stations have to do is raise their price a little to go back to the usual profits. It's the basic gist of [i]supply and demand[/i]. Prices are like this because people are willing to pay it to consume. Everyone should try not spending on gasoline at all for a week[;)]

Remember, the powers that be have seen to it that we can continue to live our day to day despite the fact the there is a 'War' going on.

One way in which something like that could work would be if the news networks got on our side voicing our concerns, maybe people would hear about it and respond in kind.

It’s impossible for most people to do without their car. Everything is so spread out. Without my car groceries would be a four hour walk, half of it uphill with groceries, couldn't work. How about 8 hours to the doctor, on foot with your sick child? (That would save Medicare I bet.) Horses, bikes, skates anyone?

Keep in mind that OIL refineries produce more than gasoline Heating fuel, natural gas, plastics, lubricants, solvents, raw chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers all come from oil and are separated out and sold, even the sludge becomes asphalt. These guys have us by the balls, our culture and our lives are dependent on them. They would be laughing in the board room at our boycott because we have nothing to back it up.

Could you imagine how healthy people would be?[8D]

As far govt. and big oil listening to consumer "concerns", they only listen to what stella just said and you can hear the sound of PAYOLA[8D]
