I HATE ants...I really do

Much to my horror this spring, my house is full of ants. WTF?

If there is one thing in this world I hate more than saurkraut & Pat Roberston, it's ANTS.

I have no issues with snakes. Spiders are fine by me. I'm a live & let live kind of guy, except when it comes to those little bastards.

So, to ease my mind & help me appreciate that the bugs I have to deal with up here can't kill me - tell me your bug horror stories.

There's nothing like a good old fashioned infestation story to put my ant problem in perspective...
[:D]

I know some of you live in places where they grow as big as volkswagens....

My best friend had a scorpion problem in her bathroom. I've got heebie-jeebies just typing that. I seriously do. They don't seem to bother her though.

Bug Horror stories? Where to begin? I was at a bbq with about 20 people and this THING comes fling around me. We don't even know what it was. Some huge huge huge beetle of some kind. So being the man that I am, I screamed like a girl and started flayling my arms and ran in the house. After the laughs died down it was gone. I go out and it comes back just after me. I hit it with a frying pan. Ping!!!Its gone.A few minutes later its back. And only going near me. Ping! Gone. Now I sit with 3 citronella candles around me and I can't stop looking around. Here it comes again. My friend swats it then burns it with a lighter. He then kicks the burnt beetle off the deck. Done? No.
Much to my horror, here over the side of the deck comes the smashed burnt beetle from hell. My reaction? "OK, I'm done! Bye everyone!" I left.

Here's a horror story for you, wolvie...

Back in my college days, one of my classmates was from Jamaiica. A nice guy, but not the cleanest. One day, he invites me over to his place for some authentic Jamaican cuisine. Being the culturally sensitive bloke that I am, I accepted. Well, that was mistake No.1.

His place was a pig sty. Dirty clothes all over the place, even on the kitchen floor. And the smells! Yech. But I was kumbaya in those days, so I held my nose.

Before did din was ready, my Jamaiican friend offered me some authentic Jamaiican tortilla's (some F-N Dorito's with some green sauce). Once again, being America's ambassador to the people of the third world, I proceded to partake of the dubious treat.

They weren't too bad, honestly. But as I dug deeper into the bowl that held the snackies, I felt something move.

I held the bowl up (it was clear) and from the bottom I could see a shitload of cockroaches infesting the culinary treats.

Needless to say, I turned greener than the special sauce my Jamaiican friend put on the Doritos (if he put it there. Maybe the roaches put it there) [xx(] .

I didn't stick around for the main course.

Kumbaya be damned, I had some upchucking to attend to.

Yay! Bug stories! I think it may have started with the pretty pretty scorpion I found.

Here's a super-fun way to get rid of ants:
1. Fill a squirt bottle with ammonia.
2. Spray the ants.
3. VoilĂ !

It will stink, so be sure you have plenty of ventilation. I also dip the outside lightbulbs in ammonia and, after they've dried, I put them back in. When I turn the lights on, there are no hovering insects--ever.

When I lived in Japan, our house was directly under an enormous tree, which in the summer was totally filled with cicadas that would hang from the branches. Japanese cicadas look like winged dates--you know, the fruit. Their bodies are about two inches long and crunchy when you step on them. Cicadas make a very loud sound (up to 110 decibels!), that has inspired Japanese haiku and literature. I instantly associate their song with summer in Japan.

Anyway, thousands of cicadas were living in this big tree over my house, singing so loudly that I couldn't hear my TV. One night there was a massive wind storm that blew all the cicadas out of the tree and they fell all over my car and driveway. The instant I stepped out my front door I crunched dozens of their dead, dying, and rotting corpses. EEW!!! Nasty! I had to use a broom and dustpan to sweep thousands of the gross, crunchy bugs and put them into trash bags. Garbage day wasn't for three more days, so the cicadas rotted in the bags in the summer heat, just feet from my house, creating a foul, sour stench. Nothing like hauling several bags of stinky, decomposing insects on trash day. Gross. [xx(]

My brain is freakin' paralyzed in terror at the thought of these horrible bug stories [xx(] Even though Philly's story had me in stitches [:D] Where I was born, in Surinam, the insects get to be GIGANTIC and in abundance. Tropical rainforest climates just lend themselves to environments teeming with life on every scale. Though this can be extremely beautiful, I can totally do without those nasty insects. UGH - GROSS!!!!! When I was in Bangkok years ago, I saw people frying up beetles and other insects on the street and selling them to be eaten like we have hot dog vendors on the streets of New York. Oh, MY GOD, that was horrible. Those giant insect, spider or snake scenes in the Indy Jones flicks? Forget it. Arachnaphobia? Refuse to see it. That giant spider thing in Lord of the Rings? I coould'nt sleep. That centipede thread someone started here a while ago? Appaling [xx(] Thank God it was'nt me [xx(]

Cool. IIRC, the moths in Silence Of The Lambs were from Surinam. [8D]

I had the double whammy a few months ago, I knew about the ants but the termites are the wallet kickers. Luckily they were caught in time with out having to replace any subflooring or structural beams. The little bastards aren't cheap to get rid of.
