Anyone here had, has, or will have Lasik eye surgery? What comments/experiences do you have and wouldn't mind sharing ?

I want to get Lasik surgery but my oculist (how do you call it in English???) doesn't recommend it. It has sth to do with ocular pression.. think that doesn't allow ocular pression to be measured.

I looked into it awhile ago, before I switched brands of contact lenses. I get frustrated because every couple months my eyes just spit out the lenses and I'm back in glasses for a while (good thing I'm much less hung up about wearing glasses now). OTOH my vision corrects nicely with glasses/lenses, and I'm not so sporty that wearing glasses is a problem for me.

I know some people who've been very happy with LASIK. But, I guess it's just the lawyer in me, but I am too scared of the complications. When I researched it, complication rate was about 5%. Most complications are minor and temporary, but still, I hear about the horror stories, like the friend of a friend whose LASIK got screwed up to the point where he lost his license to practice medicine (he was the patient, not the dr.).

Best thing I ever did!!! Had both eyes done and my vision went from 20/400 to 20/20. That was 2 years ago and my vision has dropped off to 20/30 but that's still way better than where I was. Also my night vision is a little weak. I had dry eyes & "halo's" for a few weeks but that all cleared up. My only recommendation is to use a reputable place. Spend the extra $$$ if need be. I still love putting on sunglasses and being able to see too.[8D]

My wifes uncle had it done with not so good results--had "temporary" double vision for about 6 months although it seemed to get better over time.

I love my contacts, so I'm not really that interested in lasik, as my contacts work really well for me.
I am really curious, though, as is my husband. I just can't get past the...you know, [i][b]laser beams in your eye[/b][/i] part!
However, people that I know who've had it say it went well, and they absolutely love the results.

That's what holds me back from having it. If I was to have it, I'd have one eye done, and wait a couple of months before having the other one done. That way, the worse case scenario will be an inability to watch 3-D movies or enjoy the simple pleasures of View Master's.

One of the most chilling and horrific things I have seen was an instructional video for eye surgery[B)]

I'm so grossed out by eyeballs that I can't even bring myself to wear contacts. I reeeealllly don't like eyeballs!!! So, mixing them with lasers? Not going to happen.

[/quote]On a related note.. about 5-6 years back, I had laser eye surgery done to repair a partial Retinal detachment in my left eye (no idea how that happened).
From what I can recall, it was an extremely intense pulsing burst of green light that lasted 1-2 seconds and was over as quickly as it had started (aside from the eye prep, all of about 15 minutes).

Quickest way for a medical practitioner to make $1500 that I know of![:0]

I'm firmly of the belief that we have become hapless citizens of <a href="http://www.starbase118.net/academy/library/alien/frules.htm" target="blank">"'Ferenginar'"</a>.

My wife's uncle is an opthamologist. He's very old school and doesn't like it because of the lack of long-term studies. An old friend of mine is also an opthamologist and does lasik for a living. He's offered me his discount rate, but I haven't taken him up on it yet. Maybe one of these days.

A few years back, during a routine exam, the doc spotted some anomalous condition in the back of my eyes. Probably not a threat, but to be safe I had my retinae spot-welded using lasers to prevent possible future detachment. Didn't affect the cornea, however, so I'm still myopic.
But yeah, shooting lasers into my eyes was freaky.
