a recent conversation sparked this interesting topic- What is your Perfect Song, not specifically but generally.

Here is my "template" (although by no means mandatory- I love songs that don't necessarily fit this profile):

*Male vocals (snotty helps!)
*less than 4 minutes long (bonus points for shorter!)
*must have vocals in the first minute (if not - I'm bored!)
*I better be singing along upon the second listen
*pick up the pace- I like it fast!

I don't know what the particular instrument or synthesizer they used, but there is a specific synth sound most of those songs have which I am VERY fond of.

That makes you wanna dance or that makes you think about stuff you never thought before.

A song that involves you and kinda picks you up and carries you along with it. Thus the perfect song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

There's no such thing and there never will be. At least I hope so, so that I can continue this amazing search for it.

I used to think that, but then I found F.R. David's "Words" and search was over. I've been wandering the earth since then[xx(]

It's not a "good" song in terms that it is the perfect composition. The sentimental value attached to it is invaluable. I had that song in my mind ever since I first heard it back in '83; it was popular in its time, but since I didn't know any English the only lyrics I knew were "I love you" and "easy". Whenever I tried humming the song to me mother, she knew the song I was talkin about, except she had forgotten all about it. It was like finding needle in haystack, but I kept the tune in my mind in case I would, by some cosmic chance, get to hear it again. Then, on December 26^th, 2004, by the grace of god, I was browsing the Russian Diskoteka site and I randomly clicked on F.R. David's video. Can you imagine hearing a song that you hadn't heard in over 20 years again? It was like a timewarp! It was 1983... and Dec. 26^th was my father's birthday[8]

Yeah , I know what you mean by sentimental value in a song . That's one great story . Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

At the risk of sounding all [i]English-teachery[/i] and stuff, to me the perfect song is one that shares the traits of a book's plot: a good catchy opening and [i]exposition[/i], a nice kick-off that gets the action going (the [i]narrative hook[/i]), terrific [i]rising action[/i], a bang-up [i]high point[/i] or climax that gets you singing along and maybe even cheering, satisfying [i]falling action[/i] that either nicely builds up or slows down, and finally, an awesome [i]resolution[/i] that leaves you with an indelible print in your brain. 'til you're heaving and panting when it's all over.[:o)]
