The amount of inhuman suffering (an oxymoron?) always startles and dismays me when I stop to think about it and never fails to shake my faith in many things.

And to think, if a mere fraction of a percent of the accumulated global monetary wealth were put DIRECTLY for use in providing these poor souls with the means to achieve self sustainability, what a REAL and tangible difference it would make.

But how many more Bill and Melinda Gates type foundations exist or are being established to render such aid?

Sadly, nowadays, far too few from that rarified socio-economic strata even gesture to part with a token amount of that monetary wealth or equivalent quantity of logistical resources.[V]

Given the quality of life that can be had in today's world, it's just WRONG to be ambivalent towards such an unjust social condition.[:(]

You aren't alone, Blir. I begin to question a lot of things when I read stuff like this.

In my last semester of college last year, I took an African history class, and we looked at Rwanda in some detail. I had nightmares for several weeks after reading a book about Rwanda by Philip Gourevitch (sp?) ('We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families"). It's a good book, if anyone is interested.

It totally sucks. It makes me think why the US does not go full force into Africa. I would. And force peace on them. But then again, I am called a Nazi.
