Do you need a physical CD? Or tape, vinyl...whatever? Or are you happy just having a digital download?

For the most part, I need a physical CD. I want the liner notes, lyrics, graphic design - the whole nine yards. But if it's a band or album I don't really care all that much for, I can live with a simple music file on my hard drive.

I'd much rather have the whole package: the pictures, the lyrics, the need to get my magnifying glass out to read the liner notes...

Even those albums without any of that, even the the most starkly devoid of any info inside and out (New Order releases come to mind)... to me, along with the recordings, that's all part of the performer's "art."

•I collect mp3's.

digital media is digital media. cds are passe, and the artwork is tiny and usually falters because of this. I am selling ALL of my 400+ CDs.

CDs for my very favorite stuff. mp3s are fine for a lot of stuff for which my interest level is only medium.

CDs of stuff I really like and then sometimes I burn somgs from my friends CDs just like people used to tape stuff. I don't download music from the net as I don't want to be using my credit card all the time but I do listen to music online.I wouldn't get rid of hard copies personally until I am rich enough to have multiple hardrives becuase I don't trust computers![|)]I have an ipod shuffle and I like listening to that.As long as I've got music when I want it I'm cool.[;)]But mp3s aren't the same as say a boxset of all the individual Duran Duran or Nivana singles.[^]

I still dig lp,s.I buy some every Saturday.I just bought a limited
release on Relapse records by a band called Cretin,damned bizarre
record.

I prefer mp3 now and have ripped most of what I want to listen to from the 600+ cd's that my wife and I owned. We have traded a bunch in for other music that we didn't have and I usually rip that to mp3 as well. I don't care so much about the physical cd anymore. I buy some songs from itunes and also buy used cds at Zia records here in town.

I have spent a great deal of time getting my id tags for the files correct, along with art and the link to the allmusic.com page (if one exists) for the album the song came from.

I have all the files backed up onto an external hard drive as well -- If I add a song to the library, I back it up at the same time.

I like the cds with the artwork and lyrics and everything. I have songs in mp3 format but actually I prefer having an album in my hands.

I don't really care how I get music as long as I get music and lots of it.
mp3s rock cause I can introduce the band to others and trade them too so that's my format of choice these days
vhs tapes - just got a bunch of vids, Erasure, Depeche Mode, The Cure on VHS and Im having a blast playing songs on the tv
LPs and 45s - hard to get here. country LPs seem to be the only thing around but I still have my LPs and would buy more if I found something good. still have my LPs and 45s and still play them
8 tracks - i gave my 8 trax aways finally. Took up too much room in the end. some days i want them back for the novelty of it
cassettes - these really bug me cuz its like rewind rewind rewind for an hour before you get to the right song but I still buy them. tapes really disintegrate over the years *sniff*
phonograph - have an antique phonograph player and records...worth money
cds - always good to have...dont take up much room and easy to switch tracks
cdgs and laser discs - these are cool for when im in a karaoke mood. I have Trio's Da Da Da on laser disc and some other cool sing-a-long things.
Im not much into reading liner notes but I place a high importance on album art and for art you can't beat a big cardboard LP cover.
So there you have it. As long as I can get it somehow, and learn the tracks, then I figure I have a shot at getting it in whatever format is in fashion at the time. Bring it on i say!!

Generally cd's,unless it's a single song from cd i don't want to buy. Mp3's are just for convenience.
