Guys,

Can anybody help out? This is what I need to do:

I have excel files containing several data, some numeric, some text. I need to open a new file and import the text data into the new one.

And no, I don't want to copy-paste the data.

I thought of using that cross-reference thingie,e.g. "=sheet1!A1" but I can't make it work between 2 excel files and for non0numeric data.

May be too late, but can you right click on the tab at the bottom and create a copy of the spreadsheet, then delete what you don't want?

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention this however -

I need to cross-reference the files so that when I change the data on the source xls files, the imported data on the new file can be updated as well.

I remember being able to do this with numbers but when I try it for text, I get a "0" value instead.
