Went Saturday night to check it out. 7pm showing and the theatre was 75% empty, don't see it making much box office. It wasn't a great movie but still entertaining especially when the snakes cut loose. Best line was Samuel Jackson's "I'm tired of these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!" he has a great delivery for swearing.

I don't know if Samuel L. Jackson will ever top "Pulp Fiction" in dealing out the "F" words, but since I'm not going to see this in the theatre, I can just see him deliver that "I'm fucking tired" line in my head... I guess I'll wait for it to come onto DirecTV, 'cause I don't think I want to pay even the rental price to see it! [:p]

BTW, over Labor Day weekend, Starz is showing nothing but '80s movies, like "Better Off Dead" one of my personal faves, and loads others, check out the marathon! [8D]

Are you kidding? It was worth my $8.75 just to see Sam Jackson say that. Even though we all knew he would. In fact, I would have almost preferred to pay someone $8.75, stick my head in a box, see Sam Jackson say "I'm tired of these motherfucking snakes on my motherfucking plane." and then just walk away.

Seriously, aside from a few funny moments, the movie really sucked, but not in a good way. See, the whole hype here was "this movie is so ridiculous that it's gonna be terrible on purpose and therefore, awesome." This is esentially how movies become "cult classics." Well Snakes On a Plane became a cult classic BEFORE IT CAME OUT, and it couldn't possibly live up to that.

The problem here is instead of simply being the crazy cheesefest everyone expected; the movie tried to be a real movie, with SOME cheesy/funny moments. Hence it basically killed it's chances to be "AWESOME" and settled for "ALRIGHT."

Essentially, it's the kind of "disaster movie" you see on TNT on a Sunday night, but with a bigger budget and Samuel L. Jackson.

Was it a total waste: No
Was it worth seeing in theaters: Not really

However I do seriously want that song at the credits now.

I saw some where today on the Internet (sorry no URL here...) that the OST for SOAP will be released today (well almost today) Tuesday, 22. August. 2006!

I saw it last Friday and the theater was about 40% full. We all did clap & cheer when he said "the" line.

It made $15 million opening weekend

That song was horrid. More modern crap. As for the movie, it's about as asinine as the title. I was hoping it would make the full loop, in that it was so rediculous it would be funny. Not sure if it succeeded in doing so.

Here's my thing: I love "artsy" films. I don't fear subtitles. My favorite all time film was "Cinema Paradiso", which is about as slow as movies go (from an action standpoint).

However - I also love good escapist entertainment. If it's got good action and special effects, I don't care how stupid the plot is or how bad the acting is - just thrill me! And as far as THAT goes, it doesn't get a lot better than SoaP. Seriously, I had a great time at it. It had suspense, humor, scares, and action. It was trite, it was formula, it was cheesy, and I loved every minute of it.

Not that I'm accusing anyone here of this, but I think because of all the hype it's become somewhat trendy to bash this film (think "Showgirls"). If you want highbrow film, go see "Volver" (I plan to); if you want fun, go see SoaP.

[Just a side note: I don't like ALL action films. Among recent ones I hated were "The Day After Tomorrow" and "War Of The Worlds". Just sayin'.]
