I haven't watched any episodes of the show, but I am interested to see how this will be handled.

Racism propagated, or merely a microcosm of everyday society?

It will turn out to be racist, make no mistake about it. I am not familiar with how the show works, having never bothered with it. Will it be set up so that the races are pitted against one another? If so, I don't know who will win, but I will guarantee it won't be the white people. The powers that be will never allow it. [:(!][:(]

Race vs. race is my understanding...and yes, whitey ain't the flavor of the month, no way they'll win.

I am sure that in episode 2 or 3 the tribes will be merged into two, just like when they split them up by gender & age. It's a marketing ploy to increase ratings via controversy & it seems to be working. It will be really interesting to see how it's handled and how people will react to it.

The game doesn't work when you have small teams that grow smaller each week. Inevitably one "tribe" will be stronger than the others & one will be weaker. You can't play when one team only has 1 or 2 members & the others have 5.

Well how many would be on a team to begin with? And, if the plan would be to merge them as the show progresses, then it loses much of what interest it would have had for me.

I think it was 4 teams of 5 players each. Trust me, Survivor has had these types of "shocking twists" (although not anything like teams divided by race,) for a couple of years. Last year they divided the teams by gender & age (older men, older women, young men, young women,) it lasted one episode.

Although - according to spoilers, one team takes a hit every week, so they may stick with the race thing longer than I expect. I just don't see how they're going to play if one team is down to 2 members & the others still have the original 5.

Players always merge at some point in the game & stop playing as a team & as individuals. With 20 people this year, I think a merge will happen later in the show...I think it usually happens when they have 10 players left.

<p align="justify">Naturally, the indian tribe was wiped out by the whiteys and the rest were pushed off to a little "reservation" on the crappy side of the island before the show could start[}:)] Worry not, because there's plenty a-gamblin' there[:D]
