It's not the kind of programming to plan your life around, but it can be very engaging. It's good for keeping the brain happy while the body is engaged in menial domestic chores. A few Saturdays ago I was bottling apricot syrup (the Egg house sits in an old orchard) with Book TV playing in the background. Ann Colter was on pimping her book "Godless". Say what you want about Colter, she Is entertaining. Later programming brought the story of old U.S. veterans of the Bataan Death March who were shipped off as slave labor in Japan during the war. These old guys had been treated worse than dogs - starved, beaten, and worked nearly to death by some big Japanese corporations (Mitsubishi was one of 'em). Fast forward to modern days, these former slaves of corporate Japan try to sue the huge, wealthy corporations that directly enslaved them; all they wanted was wages from 60-odd years ago. But the Bush State Dept. BLOCKS THE LAWSUIT, opposing it's own aging U.S. veterans in favor of the Japanese corporations. Congress, of course, does nothing to help (in spite of the efforts of a few senators - Joe Biden and Orrin Hatch among them).
Book TV beats MTV, BET (racist), HSN, Lifetime, and all those stoopid 'reality TV' shows combined!
