What are your plans? I had to work but I have off monday. Its also my kids birthday so we will do something.

Preparing to go back to work after having the week off - and starting classes again Tuesday night (yay!) I really didn't know what to do with myself these past few weeks.

Maybe this semester I'll learn about marmots. [;)]

Nothing too exciting, just B.B.Q.-ing with friends/family/neighbors.

We went to the Scottish Games festival today. It was kind of interesting -- decent food, watched a sheep hearding dog competition.

But then of course we stumbled on to the renassaince fair tupe part of the thing where everyone is hanging out in open tents pretending it's some-odd number of centuries ago and referring to each other as Lords. The costumes were pretty elaborate and a couple of the guys (one of whom was a "Lord") were playing a plank-size version of Jenga. Parts of this area were interesting, but renassaince fair/society for creative anachronism people tend to freak me out a little bit.

There were a lot of bands, lots of bagpipes, and lots of drums. One band, The Wicked Tinkers, has a pretty big following. They even endorsed a brand of canned Haggis that was for sale in one of the gift shops.

And here's something else I learned: there is a such a thing as vegetarian Haggis. I thought Haggis was only inedible animal organs wrapped in stomach lining and serverd on a plate. Guess I was wrong about that.

I have to drive a half hour to cut my mothers lawn which takes about three hours.Then I,m going to the Canadian Tire to buy motor oil and flashlight batteries.I don,t think I will be able to sleep tonight I,m so fucking excited. I,m being sarcastic.

Ooh, I learned this from Paul Haig! Apparently it's just oatmeal and spices wrapped in some sort of non-animal casing and it's supposed to taste really good. Yeah, he was talking about this when he talked about being a vegan/vegetarian for a looong time. I would rather wallow in muck than try regular haggis, but I'd try the vegetarian kind.

Scotland: Home of some of the most awesome musicians ever to exist, but also home of the nastiest national dish out there. Innards, ew.

ETA: Tomorrow I'll be whipping up a large feast for some relatives and I to partake in, in the afternoon. Then we'll eat and go into a food coma. So no different than Thanksgiving, really. Hopefully I'll get the kitchen to myself so I can play some music while cooking. I'd love to make it an all-Scotland affair -- Josef K, Scars, Endgames, Orange Juice, The Associates, Hipsway, Altered Images, Positive Noise, Simple Minds, Fingerprintz, Aztec Camera, and, um, that's all I can think of at the moment. OH, and can't forget Language. Even though they were HQ'ed in London, the main songwriting guy/lead singer Steven Hale is a Glasgow boy.

That aint REAL haggis, Laddie! I've had it both here and in Scotland. If it doesn't have meat the flavor of which that makes you cringe, it aint real.

What's next, filet mignon made of bean sprouts?

D'oh! Thank you. I also forgot the Fire Engines too, even though I've never heard a Fire Engine song before. That can be fixed right quick.

I would love to go to scotish games. Don't they have stuff like the strongman competition? Thats cool. I agree on the fair people. I"m the guy that buys a kilt and walks around in it all day joining the competitions. Sounds fun.

We don't have that in the UK but I do remember seeing 'Serial Mom' and her killing that woman for wearing white shoes after labor day! So don't wear your white shoes guys! [:D][}:)]

They did have some games like that there. But they weren't anything like the ones they show on ESPN2, as far as we could tell. These were not nearly as organized, nor as cool, and it was difficult to see them from the "free" area. You could pay extra to go up into the stands. But we saw no evidence that these games were like the ones on TV. Considering that, and since we'd already been gouged on the cost of lunch, a soft serve cone, and admission prices that were more expensive than what was stated on the Website, so we decided not to cough up the extra $.
