Be thankful for what you've got

Since reopening my musicblog, I've traded correspondence with a guy from Saudi Arabia. According to him (and I have no reason to not believe him) the only dvd's availiable in their country are heavily edited, cd's are screened by their ministry, any reference to sex is banned, imageshack, yousendit, rapidshare, megaupload, youtube, itunes, and most sites we take for granted are blocked, and until recently picture phones were banned (and there is no guarantee that they won't be banned again). As someone who enjoys my freedoms and wish that everyone could have the same, I find this disturbing. If you want, say a prayer for all the folks who have no choice but to live straight-jacketed lives, pray that their laws may oneday soon change for the better, and pray that we don't let our own freedoms slip away.

Sorry. Didn't mean to sermonize, but if I had to live under the conditions of our Arabian friend, I don't know how I'd manage.

Your totally right. And by keeping information from the masses, you keep them ignorant and controllable.

That is so true. Saudi Arabia has the strictest, old-fashioned, nonsensical rules ever! They do not even allow non-Muslim peeps to wear clothes as they wish. Every woman (and I mean EVERY!- including expatriates) is required to look like black ninjas!(read: face/body covered) and men are not allowed to talk to women in public! They also don't allow Christian gatherings (& the likes), so you won't see any churches there.

Here in Dubai, YouTube had been blocked for a couple of months coz I think they suspected that it's some kind of a full-blown porn site. Thank goodness it's been restored! (& again, I never would've known had it not been for British! Thanks, mister![;)])

But woudln't "saying a prayer"(cue from duran Duran?) be a bit ironic? With Saudi Arabia, it's a perfect example when religion gets out of control.

But it's not to say the USA hasn't gone overboard sometimes with overly puritan beliefs. Just replace "strict Muslim" with "strict Christian". When I was in England, shortly after the Janet Jackson exposure incident, we(as a country) were laughed at.

But still, more freedoms in the USA than SA by far.

One can be religious without suffocating others wishes and beliefs. 'sides, religion is a red herring. If it wasn't islam, Christianity, (insert your religion here), it would be something else that the thugs in charge of (insert country here)would use to control the lives of their people. Remember the USSR? Not a church, mosque or synagogue in sight. Power freaks always find a way.

I don't see why. Big difference between someone being denied the right to pursue what they want to see, it's another to be watching the superbowl in the living room, where kids may be, and have, unannounced, Janet Jackson's ugly-ass titty flopping out. I hate censorship, but that was the wrong place to pull that nonsensical stunt.

If we let the leftists have their way, we may have less freedoms than the saudis. Our kids can't pray in schools, but islamic kids have mini-mosques installed in american schools? Things are becoming ass backwards due to the lies of kumbaya.

Anyhoo, once again, it sucks for my Saudi correspondent.

Well, I am thankful...I've seen what it can be like to not have one.

I for one am grateful I don't have a nutsack. I do enjoy being a girl! I just smashed a guy in the sack with a tray at work--poor guy. It was am accident! I didn't know he was standing behind me! What was he doing with his weenie and beans exposed in the tray removal area anyway? He is the cutest guy at the restaurant too.

I have wondered about internet access in the Middle East. How awful to be stuck there.

You don't need a nutsack, you're fine just the way you are...but there are those in need. And as for Mr. Cutie in the restaurant, nothing gets a guy's attention like a shot to the pills. Good work, he knows who you are now for sure.
