We probably passed that milestone many moons ago, but anderson cooper did a CNN special on this and went on to dedicate a lot of time on the new rising minority, which won't be a minority in due time: Hispanics[}:)] The first thing that came to mind was, "So, if by 205X the Hispanic population in the US becomes a huge majority, does this mean the US is rapidly becoming a third-world Latin American nation?[xx(] " Hahaha. It sounds racist from a superficial perspective until you realise that the majority of Latin American immigrants we're getting are unskilled laborers who couldn't get a job back home and can barely read and write in Spanish - and who procreate like Mormons that think the end of the world is nigh, who pay little in taxes, who use up a lot of our social welfare programmes (hospitals, housing, food stamps, etc), and whose kids drive down the school standardised scores (it's not just the religious zealots who have a monopoly on dumbing down education). Just take a look at Santa Ana, East Los Angeles, cities in San Diego, etc. We are fuuuuucked[:D]

Absolutely. If we make it until 2050 without becoming a third world country, I will be amazed. [xx(]

If by "Spics" you mean people of Hispanic descent, I believe XXX is Hispanic. Always a class act, aren't you?
I was amazed at the fact that of the 300M residents of the U.S. up to 10% are there illegally; or is the proper phrase "awaiting legalized status". And I'm sure that 10% uses a disproportionate amount of tax dollar based programs, while contributing far less back into gov't coffers.

It's natural that if you border another country like Mexico there will be huge spillovers like in southern California and Texas. It saddens me that now the growing U.S population is using Mexican immigration as an excuse for this country's problems. Mexicans are hard workers, so are other Central Americans. It was true when the Mexican President said that Mexicans hold more and longer jobs than Blacks and most whites in this country, menial jobs with low pay and no benefits. The same excuse was used back in the turn of the century with the Irish...America back then claimed that Europe is vomiting.

Because of the decline of standards in this country, I'm seeeeeeriously considering moving to Australia. No worries about anyone jumping the borders there...not with 25 ft. long salt water crocodiles guarding the border.

Saw the report.
Actually, I don't think legalized hispanic citizens should be disrespected... They deserve the same opportunities that soemone coming form France or England tolive in the US.
Illegal also shouldn't be disrespected but your country has full right to deport them.

Yes, Mechi, but the vast majority of Latin American immigrants here in California are here illegally. They're quickly anchoring down the state economy and the resources for the legal residents. It's bad enough we have to contend with crooks from hmos, doctors, and hospitals, but now these folks come in and clutter these services - driving the cost further and further to the maximum. Lou Dobbs reported on this yesterday: One of the major factors middle class families declare bankrupcy is the rise in health care costs. I can tell you now it is easier to bilk the system as an illegal to obtain free health care than it is to be middle class and in need of it (even though they pay the bulk of the costs through premiums)[xx(]
Australia, huh? Haha[8D]

Yes. I am a class act.
And just for the record, that remark was not meant to offend or insult. I think if it came from a caucasian, it would. but coming from me, it should have been taken another way.
And I don't see why Spic had to be edited out. There were more racist terms/ worse name-callings I encountered in this Board. Nobody edited it when I referred to us as Flips.

The reason it was edited out was that it is a blantently racist comment akin to the "n" word (IMHO). And this is coming from someone whose mother is Mexican. WHO says it is immaterial. Perjorative comments such as that (especially on the net--where, as it has been discussed before, the written word disallows language modifiers such as sarcastic tone, body language, etc) add nothing to a substantive discussion on a (IMHO) important subject.
The editing did not significantly alter the thrust of your post nor deter the disucssion that followed.

How simple can you be? Referring to yourself as a "Flip" is akin to somebody who is Hispanic referring to themselves as a Latino/Latina. "Spic" is the Hispanic equivalent to the "N" word.
And on top of it all, you have the audacity to claim that because you're non-caucasian you have some leeway in the prejudicial remark department. What total bullshit!...but, that is your style isn't it?

Well, I'm half "Spic" my dad was hispanic and my mother Austrian. Am I offended by Dars use of "Spic"? No. Are there uptight Hispanics out there that would be offended? Yes. In the context in which it was stated, i took no offence and saw that he was being funny. If He would have said "Fuc*ing Spics" I'd have killed him [:D]
And I dont really see Spic as equal to the N word. Archie Bunker used Spic all the time as well as Mick, Daggo, etc. I dont ever think I heard him use the N word. Chappel, Pryor, Murphy, Chris Rock, Redd Foxx, Now those guys i've heard say it.

It may not be quite the equal, but it's denigrating intent is the same, much like using the term "picturetaker" when referring to a photographer.
Good to see you back Ben, now get up on your fence where you belong.[}:)]
