Childhood whizzing contests

Don't know if anyone else ever did this in grade school, around 4th or 5th grade we would see how far you could stand from the urinal and still hit your stream in it. Having a full bladder would certainly help your cause in getting the winning distance. This went on until I got caught at record distance by a teacher that happened into the restroom. Don't think I would now go into a restroom and challenge a guy to this kind of contest now, but it would be hilarious if you walked in on it at a bar. I would say this is strictly a male thing but you never know.

Good job, Enzfan! What was your best distance?

"Pee up the Tree" was an unofficial contest at scout camp when I was a kid. I think I placed fifth.

Young boys, for some physiological reason beyond my knowledge, can pee great distances. This ability is lost sometime around puberty. Maybe someone can google the explanation.

I would bet it's probably related to the development of the prostate gland as puberty hits full speed. The prostate surrounds the urethra (the tube that funnels urine out of the bladder). I believe the prostate has some regulatory function as to the amount of seminal fluid produced, so since you don't need seminal fluid before puberty the timing would be right to explain what Scramjet observed. Maybe DSR should weigh in on this one.

Hi Guys! A general explanation to this would be that the Urinary Bladder muscles of the young ones are still strong and capable of good contraction such as to control the pressure intended for a long range urinary stream. As a person gets older these muscles tend to be lax and like any other organs in our body if it ages it lessens its functions. So it fits well regarding the bladder muscles being much lax in older persons.I hoped that help.
