Hey Devomaniac he was in a Playhouse90 episode called "Requiem for a Heavyweight" Original air date 11 October 1956. The first original 90-minute drama ever shown live on TV and considered one of Rod Serlings best scripts. So you were close in thinking it was an episode from "Night Gallery".

I met him when I was 14 (in 1981)in a store called Gaylords in Hazleton, PA. My mom freaked when she saw him, and I was like, "Who is Jack Lance?" We went up and said hello, and my mom made me ask for his autograph, but he declined because someone had passed bad checks with his name. He apologized and ruffled my hair. I just remember thinking that he was one big dude. We were in the Poconos on vacation at the time. Pretty cool.

Seems like only yesterday he was doing one arm push-ups. This sucks. He was great in "Shane".

Didn't Ed Bradley from 60 Minutes die on the same day? I don't recall anyone mentioning it.
