Closer to what? Extinction?

No big deal if both HD formats die.

See Digital rights management

Did you forget about that one?

Plus I don't like the proprietary media formats they have released over the years.

Last product I purchased was a $900 digital video camera, which had a recall and a class action lawsuit.

Heh, you're right. I did forget about the digital rights thing. And I never knew about all their other controversial issues. You're right, fuck 'em. Sony's ass is out.

Five bucks they've learned nothing from Beta, and will price themselves right out of oblivion. It doesn't matter if HD-DVD is inferior (I don't know that it is -- just hypothetically-speaking). As long as Sony continues playing stubborn and stupid, HD-DVD will reign supreme.

Why they couldn't just work together in picking a universal standard is really beyond me, but that's why I'm going to relish seeing one cannibalize the other. Perhaps this can be Time's next cover story. How competing hi-def DVD formats are living dangerously.

Hey, I'm glad someone else noticed Sony and their DRM bullshit. If I *had to* choose one, I would take HD DVD because of Sony+DRM, and seeing that Sony owns a movie studio, whereas Toshiba doesn't ... [:)]

But as I said, I would rather see both die and learn their lesson the hard way of not working together for a unified format.
