Ok, so maybe I'm a pushover. I just saw the commercial for St Judes childrens hospital. The one with all the sick kids. I get choked up even thinking about sick kids....so yeah I'm a sponsor now. I also sponsor a kid in Africa. So my question is what do you do, if anything?
And to feel real small, my boss takes in foster kids. Troubled ones. And he adopts them. Jeez. How about you guys?

As a member of the most discriminated against group in the U.S., I do nothing and feel no guilt at all about it.

I work in social services, my whole work life is about that stuff whether I like it or not, so no, I really don't donate money to people related things. The one exception, I always drop a dollar in the Salvation Army kettle everytime I pass. I feel very bad for the old harmonica playing lady they have propped up against one near me.

I do donate money to the local SPCA and have given miniscule amounts to various wildlife charities.

I used to be active with volunteer work in my 20s, but not anymore. Shame, shame on me. [V] I try to donate good clothing on a regular basis (I used to work in a charity thrift store, so I know that lots of people give away their nasty, unwearable crap). Salvation Army gets a check from us every so often b/c they helped out my husband's family tremendously during troubled times.

I donate my time to a Christian School as the technical administrator and computer science room administrator and also I'm technical administrator at my Church. We donate regulary in multiple assistance programs for underprivelaged children in the community. My wife donates her time in assisting people with limited mobility running errands etc...
Oh and I'm an anonymous prayer partner for multiple children.

I volunteer quite a bit, although not as much as I used to. Before/during/ after the Peace Corps, I backpacked around Africa (mostly Northern and north Central), pitching in wherever I could. I had a tremendous time. Simply amazing. I volunteered some time in Vietnam and Thailand as well. Here, I am involved in animal organizations and donate to wildlife funds. I used to do Big Brothers/ Big Sisters. I do Meals on Wheels, which is where you bring food to home-bound folks, mostly elderly. I go down to the Animal Shelter when I have a chance. Not to mention extra duties at school, more specifically working with my student gov't kids doing community service, like soup kitchens. I dish out at a soup kitchen every T-giving and Xmas.

Before I moved, I was active with the American Cancer Society and the local crisis center for abused women and children.

I haven't done much out here. I did recently go to a fund-raising lunch for a shelter for victims of domestic violence and I think I'll probably get involved with that. I have a huge soft spot for the elderly, so I'd like to find something in that area that I can help with.

Annndddd, I'm thinking about looking into a job with the school district. It's a program that is set up to help at-risk and homeless students. It's educator/social worker-type stuff. We'll see....

If I had tons of money, I'd be one of those people who try to help everyone. I really do feel like it's my duty to help others out.

I don't have the resources to save the world so I try to commit some random act of kindness whenever and wherever I can. That's the best I can do.

And thats good enough. I'm a big believer in random acts of kindness because it ripples out. Everyone should think like you.

I donate blood platelets. One of the benefits is two uninterrupted hours with my ipod. And you get to eat cookies afterwards.
