I don't know if anyone is familiar with the 1982 Atari classic video arcade game Gravitar, but it is my favorite arcade game.

After 3+ years and serious 6 attempts (that we taped) I finally broke the world record on 12/23/06. 8,029,450 points, 23 hours and 15 minutes. The previous record was 4,722,200 points set by Ray Mueller on 12/4/82, 12 hours and 21 minutes.

I've asked Brien King to add a Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings (TGTS) for Gravitar -- 6 ships/No Bonus -- it's the only challenge I have left on the game, to play through the entire game with only 6 ships -- should make tournament play better as well..

I love the old vector graphics video games, especially the Atari ones, as they were the most interesting. They were also so freaking hard! Remember one called Major Havoc? Ugh.

I used to spend a ton of time playing MAME games (up until around the time I started playing Napster, et al). Now I'm going to fire it up again, if it still works (my version's probably a few years out of date).

Congrats Dan, seems 2006 has been a good year for ya!

Just jokes Dan! It really is pretty amazing that you totally obliterated the record. This wasn't Vasiley Aleksiev breaking the sqaut record every other week by 0.1 kilos to feed his family. This was like Carl Lewis running the 100 in 5 seconds then singing the national anthem like Pavaroti!

I've been busy working on the new Zelda game but have been playing the hell out of Elevator Action on MAME.

I guess the closest I ever came to your fame is an all nighter at Perry's Pizza in Fullerton when I was 16. I could play Star Castle forever on one quarter and one 1st prize in the all night competition.

Are you the one that made the video game cabinet for the MAME games?

My husband recently got into playing MAME games.

He acquired this baby: http://www.x-arcade.com/two-player.shtml and got it hooked up to an old laptop (that had a broken screen but was still working) and our tv. Good times!

Jeez, this game is still too freaking hard.

And my wife won't let me stick any more quarters into the floppy drive.
