.....you miss the Thriller era Michael Jackson. Every time that guy was on TV it was a huge deal. The videos were unbelievable with all those breakdance inspired moves. And if he had any plastic surgery, no one even noticed.

Like I've said before, I still remember watching one of those early/mid 80s Grammy's with a bunch of college baseball players...real rough sort. We were playing poker or just drinking or whatever and the Grammy's happened to be on...I'd never actively watch it of course. [;)] The MJ moonwalk skit came on and every single person in that room was completely wowed.

At that time period, I was not a fan of MJ, although I was always grudgingly impressed by those [i]Thriller[/i]-era videos. He looked so good busting out those moves! He really did. Now, 20 years later, I enjoy listening to [i]Thriller[/i] infrequently. It sounds kind of dated, but it's also tight, funky music, and in my mind, I still picture THE DANCE. Back then, [i]Thriller[/i] was really a revolution.

Who would have guessed that he'd turn out like he did? Crying shame.

Hated him, plain & simple. I could never get into the music, the baby-talk singing, the hiccups, anything. I thought his dancing was interesting in 1978, but he never did anything different except add the moonwalk.

I don't know why I have such a strong reaction to him...it's just not healthy! [:D]

You're right, I miss it.

But that doesn't mean you DON'T need to lay off the bong![:D]

I'm with Hutter. Off The Wall era MJ was great but after that I couldn't stand any of it.

Worked for RCA records the years "Thriller" and "Bad" came out. I was managing the Chicagoland area, and my region sold the most bad albums that year, and my reward was meeting MJ in person and attending his concert front row at the Rosemont Horizon and I had backstage passes.Even though I loathed him and the top 40 music I was marketing, I was awed at his dynamic presence. That era he was in a "lavender" look. Skin tone and I just thought it was due to Prince being his at that time number 1 contender. In person he seemed shy ,withdrawn and very soft spoken. I was pretty well ripped by the end of the concert but I still managed to be cordial. At that time I was listening to alot of Fad Gadget and 4AD type stuff so his music to me was as far removed from my taste as country misic is now. But what a stage show.

I had to admit, i watched Smooth Criminal video a lot of times. [:D]

I've never really liked MJ... but the Thriller era was actually good. So I do understand the feeling of having an artist that was enjoyable becoming in something detestable.

I was very anti-MJ back in the day. To me he was just another disco/soul flak. I'm a bit more open now to disco and soul than I used to be, but, no, I've never been a Michael Jackson fan.
