Does anyone remember the 1980 movie Flash Gordon? The one with the Queen soundtrack?

After all these years, Marv's Viking Mars Probe thread brought the movie out of the cob-webby recesses of my brain. It had so much cool stuff - big over the top sets, neon colors, ridiculous dialog ("Dispatch War Rocket Ajax" "No! Not the Bore Worms!"), somewhat passable talent (Sam Jones,) and big heavy-hitters (Max Von Sydow, Timothy Dalton.) Something about it just makes me happy. I must have seen it a hundred times on HBO, way back when.

Anyone remember it? Love it? Hate it? I'd definitly say it's a forgotten cult movie.

Totally. I picked up the DVD a few summers ago at a garage sale for like, $3. Love it to death!

Great, campy stuff. Plus if Topol's in a movie, it's gotta be good! But who was the smokin' hot princess chick? Woof! Not Melody Anderson.

It gets worse. Within the hour I'll have a video clip of the Hawkmen's battle with War Rocket Ajax posted up.

Useless trivia: Kurt Russel passed on playing Flash Gordon to play Snake Plisken in Escape From New York. He was offered more money to play Flash, but didn't feel that the role was much of a challenge. Could you imagine how much different Flash Gordon would have been with him in the role?

I think Kurt made the right choice. He was perfect for Escape, not so much for this.
