I dunno. I have mixed feelings about Hollywood remakes. I sure do get excited about them but there are certan movies that should just be left alone. Here are mine:

Tron
The Black Hole
Flash Gordon
Clash of the Titans

After yesterday's Flash Gordon thread I got to thinking about this.

On this note, anyone planning on seeing "The Hitcher" I mean, c'mon how can anyone hope to top the classic performace of C. Thomas Howell finding a finger in his fries????[:p]

Some movies are just artifacts of their time. I keep hearing that they want to remake "The Seven Year Itch." How could they possibly? The times are so different, and I don't think many modern audiences (i.e., kids) could appreciate it without a bunch of fart jokes and I'm sure whoever gets the Marilyn Monroe part will be wearing no underwear during the subway grate scene.
They need to leave it alone.

On that thought, what the hell is up with the Hairspray remake? A movie of a musical based on a movie? John Travolta in the Divine role? No thanks - it's pointless. The fact that Divine was a drag queen, a real one, is what made all of John Water's movies so awesome. Matter of fact, I hope they leave all of his movies alone.

I'm not sure if they ever remade Halloween, but that too is such a part of the late seventies culture - they could never recapture the spirit of it, or improve on it.

Maybe it's my age, but Halloween is one of those cornerstone movies of my youth that I couldn't bear to see remade & forgotten for some new flashy craptacular version.

I agree. No Tron remake.

But what if they did and it ruled?

When Tron came out I was into computers which totaly immersed me into that movie. I had a commodore vic-20 then a 64 and knew BASIC like the back of my hand.

I think the Matrix could be kind of considered a modern day Tron.

I second the Godfather. Blasphemy!

What a great topic, but at the same time a depressing one. I heard recently that The Rocky Horror Picture Show will get the "remake" treatment. Well, I was very apprehensive when I first heard the news but it made me wonder, the only reason remakes are being made is an easy way to make money. It's like the music industry. Every song on the radio is sampled one way or another. Nothing is original anymore. More teens need to start respecting the original aspect of movies and music or we will just repeat this boring cycle of remakes. It's pointless and I see no interest in a remake of Halloween, just the idea makes me want to cry and it's being considered by Rob Zombie ... like, gag me with a fork! not even worth a spoon. I want to die after seeing such a monstrosity. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what Hollywood wants to destroy next, maybe Gremlins, maybe Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, oh wait ... they, never mind [xx(]

The BBC made for TV version was pretty good. I would rate it equal with Dino's version.

What sucked was the TV re-edit of Dino's version, which had some loser narration instead of Virginia Madsen/Princess Irulen or whatever her name was. Oh well, at least the steelbook case the DVD comes in is cool.

Didn't they do a remake of The Breakfast Club a few years back? Or was I just dreaming?

I don't think they remade Breakfast Club but they may have parodied a scene from it in one of those shitfests like "Not Another Teen Movie" or "Date Movie". [V]
