I've never been what you would call a maniac Mr. Green Genes fan. My dad gave me a copy of the MOI's Freak Out! when I was 16, and I have one or two of his more accessible LPs (e.g. The Man from Utopia, etc.)

But, I got a copy of Zappa's "autobiography" ("The Real Frank Zappa")for Xmas, read it and all I can say is wow. I knew the guy was musically brilliant, but I was very impressed by his views on life, the arts, and politics (a libertarian after my own heart). I literally laughed out loud at several places in the book.

Any diehard Zappa fans out there? Which LPs do you like/love? Other media he has participated in? This inquiring mind would like to know..

Overnight Sensation, Roxy & Elsewhere and my alltime fave...Sheik Yerbooty. Hey he did feature Adrian Belew as Bob Dylan. I'm not a huge fan but found Frank at a very impressionable age so it left an impact.

I went through a Zappa phase at around the time of Joe's Garage but it didnt last very long. I have a ton of respect for the man but I just don't "get" a lot of what he did musically. I have him firmly filed in the "artists I should love but just don't" category.

Zappa had some crazyass music in his time that's for sure but he also had gems that I still listen to now. When I feel like kickin' back , songs like "Watermelon in Easter Hay" do it for me. What a great musician he was.

By my standards , this is deep and well thought out .

I wouldn't describe myself as an avid fan of Zappa, but I have a lot of respect for his musical expression, as well as his defense of his freedom to do so. Especially when he took on the PMRC and Congress.

Zappa was certainly the first person to outright warn me about "yellow snow."

There may never have been a band called "Missing Persons" if not for him.

I'm most fond of [i]Joe's Garage[/i]. I once got a kick out of hearing the organist at Shea stadium play "Stick It Out" prior to a baseball game a few years ago. I refrained from singing along... at least out loud.
