Horrible Voices (that make it)

After seeing american idol, I thought of this thread. There are tons of artists that make it but their voices suck. Some are still good even if their voices suck. Some still suck.
1 example: Axle Rose! Guns and roses were HUGE. But Axle sounds like
a cat in a blender.
OK, name some!

Neil Young. I love the guy but singing is not his strong suit.

Well, Blir just stole my answer.
Ben Folds and Stephan Jenkins (Third Eye Blind) are other noble candidates. Then again, pretty much everyone on the modern rock charts nowadays would qualify.

Although you could debate whether they "made it", It's Immaterial's singer John Campbell always struck me as having a particularly untrained voice. Despite that, I don't think I could hear anyone else singing an It's Immaterial song.

Heh, I was listening to Throwing Muses' [i]In A Doghouse[/i] last night and thinking about this...
Kristin Hersh—in her early Throwing Muses days—had, by traditional standards, a very unpretty voice. It was gurgling, screeching, and weirdly quivering and nasally. But she's fantastic, powerful, and really throws herself into each song. I love her!

and the rest of those awful screechy men-hating-and-bashing "womyn" singers of the 90s....
I really enjoy PiL's music, but Johnny Lydon's voice is pretty grating.
