Sorry, Fred, no more Brontosaurus Burgers

This news is so old I feel like a dinosaur for only learning it now.

When I was a kid we had a handful of dinosaurs in our repertoire - t-rex, triceratops, stegosuarus, brontosaurus and so on. My pre-school son, on the other hand, can identify everything from an ankylosaurus to a velociraptor. I got into an argument with him (yes I am a total loser) when I called one of his toys a Brontosaurus. "NO! Dad, that's an Apatosaurus". WTF?

Well, apparently, the Apatosaurus was discovered first. For years it was assumed the Brontosaurus was a different dinosaur. However, in the 70's it was finally proved that Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus were, in fact, the same creature. Since Apatosaurus was found first, this is the name that sticks and the Brontosaurus really is extinct.
